Abolish AI! Manifesto

Look, I'm not a fan of AI either, and I also have a snarky "AI bad" website (stopslopware.net) but there is just something about this site that bothers me. It's far too wordy, and can't seem to decide whether it wants to be written in a formal or informal style. I don't know what's going on with the single quotes around AI -- I suppose it's meant to signify that AI is not really intelligence?

Bringing up slavery and police abolition in this context is also... A choice, I suppose. If we're talking oppressive institutions I'm not quite sure AI is among peers there. Let me be clear, I think AI is harmful, but characterizing it as an oppressive institution akin to slavery isn't doing you any favors.

Also, I have to point out this passage:

it is worth reminding ourselves that not only are alternatives imaginable; they are also feasible and realistic, as for the most of human history — for the absolutely longest time of our human existence on earth — we humans lived without slavery; lived without prisons; lived without police; lived in communities without cisheteropatriarchal norms; and lived without AI.

This reads like the confused rambling of a self-important grad student. And I say this as someone that generally agrees with that political position. This is just obnoxious.

I think it was Bob Dylan (please correct me if misremembered) who said that if you want a successful protest song, you need to choose only one specific topic. I think it applies to this kind of text. Cross sectional issues exist, but... every more general circle will just lose people.

If the OP just used an AI to proofread and critique the essay they would have learned how to write better texts, but instead the OP prefers playing purity games.

The things that infamously can't write worth a damn and bring everything down to their level?

viraptor | 10 hours ago

Yes, people and LLMs who can't write very well are able to critique well. Editors are rarely well known writers, yet well known writers use them. Asking an LLM for a critique and ways to improve this post gives both the issues mentioned in comments here and actually actionable ideas. There is real nuance in what you ask for.

It's 2026, you are holding it wrong. Get down from your high horse.

Yes, I am the troll, not the person that either is lying or hasn't tried to use an llm and thinks it brings down to some level, :-/

One of the issues with such a long post that makes so many overly-broad claims is that it becomes tedious to respond constructively, which I think is highlighted by the fact that nobody else has commented on it.

OP, what do you think is the most important part of this post that you think would merit discussion?

I thought it might resonate better with the community than the "Future of Programming" talk I posted. And it did, before it was taken down! Which is a shame, because the other post has much more content! I think you're right, abolishing AI is not feasible. Thanks for the attention and please check out my other submission!

Who made this? And why haven't they put their name to it on the website?

The option to donate when we know nothing about this organization or who runs it is pretty strange.

I mean, if the rest of the site is sincere then it seems like it's primarily a group of people around a specific university organizing IRL. So the people who would donate would probably at least have met them already.

(See also: the primary donation mechanism being.. a popular app for P2P payments in Denmark.)

Now I'm having thoughts of it being done by AI to collect funds from anti-AI people (which I kinda include myself).
