Submission statement: “Help me!” shouted Marcos “Bori” Alcaraz. “I’m on fire!” Thirty-five-year-old Alcaraz, a slim kid from the Bronx serving time for manslaughter, stood pressed against the steel bars inside South Hall—an infamous cellblock at Eastern NY Correctional Facility, a maximum-security prison tucked away in Napanoch, New York. It was around 1:40 a.m. on a summer Saturday last month when Alcaraz’s cell ignited into an inferno. No one came to his aid until it was too late.

It just sounded like an amateur writer who was trying to appeal to our humanity, in clumsier terms than I'm used to. I don't know how much Slate edited it. But it was quite good for an inmate.

Yeah I thought the writing was good even for the general public not just an inmate. Really sad story certainly made me upset
