It was my last day at my current job, it was an interesting experience, it’s a cool company but it doesn’t really suit me. Especially regarding the work schedule… so I’ll have a few days’ rest.
I'll be at the local hackspace as every Friday, and I attend a small Chaostreff in another nearby city. And I'm invited to a birthday party!
Programming-wise, I want to write a little software that displays cargo check and Clippy's output in a the browser. This will give me a good opportunity to play with smol-rs.
Hopefully actually getting a paper I've been working on about the negative impacts of AI and vibe coding on software engineering to draft status. This has been a labor of love, rather than something done for work or school, but I'm citing my sources and trying to strike a tone that isn't ranting or shaming, since I want to reach an audience beyond people who already hate AI.

Driving round Scotland, the good bit up near Inverness for the weekend. See some folks I've not seen for a while, drive some roads I've not driven for even longer. Looking forward to it.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. GAMMA I think. The more I'm looking at what it's doing the more I realize it's basically the neovim of S.T.A.L.K.E.R and installing it felt just as dubious as did installing the pirated copy of Shadow of Chernobyl I got my hands on in 2007*.
* As was the fashion at the time. I've since bought it because it turned out to be one of the best games ever.
Doing battle with an insect nest, then trying to build a serial input with a 74LS125 and some address decoding glue and testing Linux 7.2 on my Raptor Talos II with its iffy SATA card (or perhaps just replacing the card).
If it’s wasps, attack it at night, ideally when cold. Yellowjackets can’t see at night or fly when cold (or something like that). Armed with only a rake, I’ve taken out multiple large nests and never gotten stung. YMMV :)
It's finally cool enough to be back in the woodshop, so trying to get that cleaned up and some dust collection improvements would be nice.
I'm reading the Stuxnet book. About a quarter of the way through it. It's okay. Tbh with all the praise I've read on it, I thought it would be better, but still not bad and enjoying it. If anyone has recs on reading material either books or even well-written or interesting online vulnerability disclosures, I'd be interested.
Making Pocket Protection Program. It's a network usage tracker for macOS written in Swift, because it turned out that nobody had made something like this before; or maybe I couldn't find one.
Windows 11 had it built-in and I never felt how useful is it until I realized it's effectively non-existent in macOS.

gotta apply for more jobs, too. i am weighing whether or not i should post on LinkedIn asking for help looking for a new role. my coworkers all follow me on LinkedIn and see my posts and talk to me about them, so they'd surely see this one, but i don't know if that would have a negative effect on my presence at work or not. but i have pretty good reach on LinkedIn and some connections there that could help me find a gig.
Continue with learning for my A2 motorcycle license. I didn't have any time during the week due to lots of things happening at work and personal. Did a practice exam and had the bare minimum to pass, but would like to score a bit higher.
Meeting up with friends to plan our Christmas holiday trip
Going to backup + reinstall my chuwi minibook with pikaOS and hope everything works without having to mess too much
If time permits (probably not) checking out some stuff to increase my knowledge about governance in IT
Buying a microwave. Vibe coding a Kata-containers fork which removes most of its functionality leaving only whats needed for basic Kubernetes-Firecracker workloads. I have 1 weeks worth of 20x credits to try to use up before 5am PT.
Hoping to get a chance to pick up my Mornington Crescent interactive debugger again; been meaning to write a post about it, but something's changed with the Transport for London official SVG of the Tube map, and now it doesn't initialise properly.
I take it quite easy this time so sleeping in a hotel, going out for dinner instead of cooking on my own stove etc. The necessary prep is plan route on computer and load that into bike gps system, clean an lube chain, adjust tyre pressure, pack a set of normal clothing, bring some water and food, a notebook for the case I think of something genius. All in a water resistant bikepack. During the ride I wear pants with a chamois.
Regarding time there is good infrastructure here but I do not have a race bike but a trekking one. So I expect to ride it in 4-4,5 hours a day.
