Fixing their economy has everything to do with climate. It tanked in the first place because they didn't invest early enough in solar and wind as they phased out nuclear and Russian gas, making everything cost more to produce.
But notably their inequality and cost of living are still way ahead of the US, even with their recession. They actually have a lot more disposable income per capita too, e.g. a median family with 1 child in the US has almost zero left over after healthcare, childcare, education, and transportation expenses, whereas in Germany the same family would have about $20k/year disposable income because they actually get services in exchange for their taxes.
Maybe the US is the one that should be fixing their economy, inequality, and cost of living?
Yeah not bad. Europe loves to tout how much better they are but haven’t done a great job, or any job really, of stepping up to fill the void America is currently. It’s going to be a missed opportunity for them if they don’t capitalize on it because by all indications the republicans will be going out in a big way in coming elections
I was talking more from a funding standpoint. There was several articles in the past year about how x amount of people will die because America isn’t funding y anymore, plenty of admonishing and insulting from our European Ally’s but no one stepping to to provide stop gap funding to these. Seems like it would be an easy win for any of these countries and yet crickets.
There’s also the whole Ukraine war. Europe had their tail between their legs when the war started because of decades of over reliance on American military power. Ukraine would’ve been steam rolled if it had been up to Europe to support them. 5 years later and no real change on Europes part, Ukraine and in turn Europeans security are still beholden to America
Looking it up... Germany in particular spends about twice as much money per capita on public research, AND twice as much per capita on foreign aid, compared to the US. And the EU now spends more annually than the US ever did on defending Ukraine, about 2/3 of total annual spending with the planned overall EU defense budget doubling in the next few years as well.
Looks to me like they're doing exactly what you're saying they aren't, and better than the US by a huge margin. You should know better than to trust talking points from "entertainment news".
American funding for either dwarfs only individual member states, simply by virtue of being much larger. Together they are bigger than us, but also we don't spend as much as they do per capita.
