This breaks my heart:

Did the author mean to present an umbrella ⛱︎ or an umbrella ⛱️ ? We don’t know what their writing tool presented to them during editing. They don’t know that we don’t see what they think we see when we’re reading the thing.

No scratch that. This is the tear jerker:

the Unicode Technical Committee is aware that variation selectors are complicated and maybe weren’t the best strategy. But what’s done is done and can’t be undone

I LOVE IT when software renders some emoji it doesn't understand as multiple separate ones with a bunch of question marks or something.

I would hope the the +U+FE0E and +U+FE0F columns do render the same way for everyone.

Alas, no. For me on iOS 26.5.2 in Safari, I see the first 8 rows with text but for the remaining rows all three columns show the same representation: emoji

First 7 rows for me with Firefox 153.0 and the LineageOS stock browser on LineageOS 22.2 (Android 15)
