How Jewish American pedophiles hide from justice in Israel

Oh man I recently listened to a Casefile episode about Malka Leifer and three sisters in an ultra orthodox community that were assaulted by her. Leifer left for Israel and feigned illness to convince the courts to postpone and eventually cancel the case against her; there was also alleged interference by Israeli officials to prevent her extradition back to Australia where the abuse took place. I’m glad to see in this article that religious authorities are speaking up about it and hope this loophole is closed…

She was eventually extradited and put in jail

whattheknifefor | 2 hours ago

Correct, but quite a lot of Israeli officials and civilians did quite a lot to prevent that from happening

MasterpieceTimely144 | 4 hours ago

I've spoken to one of the sisters who was abused by Leifer, It's completely awful what happened to them and unbelievable that it took so long to get justice.

First thing I thought of. The community (which is anti-Zionist as well as ultra-Orthodox) also faced an attempted firebombing of its synagogue a couple of years back. Like, haven’t they been through enough?

TrueCrimeRunner92 | 5 hours ago

I was about to comment this! It was such a devastating listen.

this loophole is by design

waterbird_ | 3 hours ago

What do you mean?

One of those articles contains a quote that explains a lot.

One victim of child sexual abuse, who spoke to the Israeli media after 20 years of silence, said that in Emmanuel secrecy is maintained for the sake of the community, so as not to blacken the image of Orthodoxy.

“They prefer to save the community as a whole, and not deal with the individual,” said Yaakov Sela, who reported the rabbi who molested him to the police. Sela had recordings of conversations with the rabbi in which he admitted his guilt for crimes not only against him but against other, far more recent victims.

The accused escaped to London days after the press published the story. In the end, it was Sela who was punished.

“If someone speaks up, he brings the whole community down with him instead of just himself,” Sela says.

“In their opinion, speaking up, it’s the victim that threatens the community, and therefore the abuser must be protected.”

Yeah, i've made a separate post related to this here https://www.reddit.com/r/Longreads/comments/1qwpbog/the_childrpe_assembly_line/

>Ultra-Orthodox Jews who speak out about these abuses are ruined and
condemned to exile by their own community.

>In these cases, the accused men “very quickly and effectively engage the
rabbis, the Orthodox politicians, and powerful Orthodox rabbis who
donate handsomely to political clubs.”

>When Rabbi Rosenberg wants to bathe at a mikvah in Brooklyn to purify
himself, none will have him. When he wants to go to synagogue, none will
have him. “He is finished in the community, butchered,” said a fellow
rabbi who would only talk anonymously.

We see something similar happen in Amish communities in the US. Victims are terrified of reactions to the truth, and being excommunicated - how could they not be?

judgeridesagain | 5 hours ago

This is basically how all religious institutions work. The more embedded into the local power structures the worse they are.

So disgusting how it never ends.

mdp300 | an hour ago

It happens in secular ones, too.

Star quarterback rapes a girl, or a coach is a kiddy rapist, and the university covers it up because they somehow decide that pretending it never happened is less embarrassing than publicly prosecuting the guy.

And then it ends up coming out anyway, and they look so much worse than if they had actually dealt with it properly in the first place.

lanejamin | 5 hours ago

This is obviously horrible, but I think the fact that OP is a two-day-old account who has already posted numerous articles on child sex abuse done by Jewish people makes me feel like they're less concerned about the actual crime being committed and more concerned about the religion of the people doing it.

silliestjupiter | an hour ago

I noticed this, too.

Powerful-Patient-765 | 4 hours ago

Yep. The idea that Jews are pedophiles goes back to the middle ages. Google “blood libel”. 500 years ago conspiracy theorists were saying that Jews were killing Christian children to drink their blood. I’m not saying there aren’t Jewish pedophiles. But you do need to recognize it’s a hallmark of conspiracy theories.

petertompolicy | 3 hours ago

Did you read the article?

It's about Israeli policy which shelters pedos not Jews.

The article absolutely does not conflate the two there is no reason for you to do so other than to deflect from this very really problem.

lanejamin | 3 hours ago

Hey, are you missing the point on purpose or should I send you a few resources on media literacy.

manolosandmartinis44 | 2 hours ago

> I send you a few resources on media literacy

Feel free to put them in a comment, I'd be interested, kind redditor?

petertompolicy | 2 hours ago

The comment I replied to was missing the point of the article this thread is about, hope that helps.

greenfrog72 | 4 hours ago

Yeah, let’s focus on the account age, rather than the myriad facts, articles, and documentation OP has provided. Business as usual, I guess…

lanejamin | 4 hours ago

Dude, anti-Semites love to sneak around and flood online spaces with articles about CSA done by Jewish people, and ONLY Jewish people, regardless of the fact that CSA is extremely common among all authoritarians in positions of power. Orthodox, Catholic, atheist, whatever. I'm saying OP's agenda is obvious as hell. These people don't give a shit about children being abused, they want an easy dunk on Jewish people.

greenfrog72 | 4 hours ago

Feels like that’s an excuse given very often for not dealing with these issues and to silence people. What OP posted is absolutely something that needs to be discussed. And frankly the attempting silencing is getting tiresome

RiverGyoll | 4 hours ago

The article is six years old. The motivations for posting it now are highly suspect.

greenfrog72 | 3 hours ago

Given current events? Are you serious?

petertompolicy | 3 hours ago

That's super important!

Sure it's all very credible and factual proof that there is a pedo haven country that is receiving hundreds of billions in US tax dollars, but this account reposting the story isn't very old.

The mods removed my post on this article https://forward.com/series/nazi-collaborator-monuments-around-the-world/ does this mean the mods are protecting the nazis?

waterbird_ | 38 minutes ago

Maybe it means you’re an obvious troll

greenfrog72 | 4 hours ago

Funny, because I recently had a comment on here reported when I called out the purchasing of CBS and subsequent appointment of Bari Weiss to censor the news as clear Zionist BS. I received a 3 day sitewide ban (not specifically this sub) and then I immediately appealed it and got reinstated. But it truly is frightening how much the Israeli government/zionist operatives appear to be attempting to censor even the most benign call outs of their behavior. And I think it’s not really working anymore.

mdp300 | an hour ago

A few weeks ago, I got a 2-day ban for inciting violence. The comment in question was a simple, "how?" in response to another comment that said Zohran Mamdani would make life for Jews in New York miserable.

I actually appealed it and got it overturned.

waterbird_ | 38 minutes ago

You think the Israeli government is handing out Reddit bans?

PrincessPlastilina | 4 hours ago

Google Andrés Roemer. He has like 60 rape allegations in Mexico and he fled to Israel. He was supposed to be extradited to Mexico but it’s been years and he’s still hiding in Israel.

letemfight | 6 hours ago

Did you know that Israel grows some of the purest Thai chili peppers in the world? Google "Israel Thai 100%" to learn more!

Key_Gap9168 | 5 hours ago

For those downvoting, when you google that phrase you get stories like this: "100% of Thai women working in Israeli agriculture report being sexually assaulted in Israel."

Weird country, and it has not helped its reputation by conducting the current genocide in Gaza.

LadyADHD | 4 hours ago

I’m seeing those same articles, but none of them seem to have a source. Were you able to find the basis for that stat?

New-Worldliness-1387 | 5 hours ago

yeah it’s really disturbing. israel's got a lot to answer for on many fronts rn js

cambriansplooge | 29 minutes ago

OP is a two day old account that exclusively posts about shadowy elites and child porn to two small news-related subreddits. Transparent agenda is transparent.

Additional_HoneyAnd | 4 hours ago

LOL why would they even need to hide? Vote Republican and donate to Republicans and they'll probably ship children to you.

Exact_Ranger_6942 | 2 hours ago

lol that's what makes it interesting tho, gotta love those thought experiments that make you question everything for a sec
