I couldn’t even make it past this sentence… The people and the system is so pathetic.

“He grew up in nearby Harper, tried a few different colleges without graduating and spent his 20s cycling though jobs in freight logistics, pest control and insurance.
Still seeking his calling, he arranged a ride-along with a police officer outside Austin. What sold him on policing was the suburban officer’s power to enforce the law as he saw fit.”

Basically, after failing it basic education for himself and three other easy careers, he decided the right thing that he deserved was unlimited power over poor suburban women, as he tells it.

As long as we give these losers the power to have power over us, this is the world we will have.

And the part where he was fired for using a police car on duty to cheat on his wife, and only hired back on when a new police chief (the EIGHTH IN FIVE YEARS) hired him on.

Really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I'll have to read the rest later...I was honestly to depressed reading in real words who our police are to go on past that.

It's like on South Park when Jesus says the definition of "whoring yourself out" as he uses it doesn't mean literally having sex for money but making money by doing things "not that other people can't do, but that they're not willing to"

He didn't get this job by being better at what he does than anyone else, he got it by having less principles than them

Comfortable_Style_51 | 12 hours ago

It’s what my BIL did. He couldn’t fulfill his pipe dream of being a radio DJ so he’s a cop now.

This is not a flattering piece for any of the officers named. It's worth repeating that Officer Jaron Alexander is not only getting an obscene number of people deported, but he is making it nigh impossible for the Ingram-Kerrville area to recover from the devastation of the July 4th, 2025 floods that ABSOLUTELY devastated the area physically with necessary repairs & lives lost. While it seems he has made some decisions that are kinder, he is still not sorry he "did his job" by choosing to work with ICE.

A nice nazi is still a nazi.

ButIsItPretty | 18 hours ago

Amen. I hope that he realizes that being 'nice' about handcuffing people in front of their body & letting them have their phones so they can call their loved ones is still despicable since he's still ensuring their lives are endangered by entering the black hole of ICE facilities.

from NYT:

He Helped Deport 200 People. Now He Has Misgivings.

🤮

[OP] AndMyHelcaraxe | 15 hours ago

That’s the headline they went with?! FFS

cooldudium | 13 hours ago

Do note that the people writing the articles aren’t the ones titling them. Which kinda makes it worse IMO but

[OP] AndMyHelcaraxe | 12 hours ago

Yes, 100%! I can only imagine how frustrating that must be

shortened | 14 hours ago

Couldn’t believe it as I read it

VividlyNonSpecific | 14 hours ago

Where is NY Times Pitchbot when you need them?

DistributionFit3958 | 20 hours ago

Imagine all that money invested in our infrastructure and our failing energy grid. Instead we’re spending billions to send construction crews and house cleaners   back to Mexico (before violently terrorizing and rapi*g them first).

People will defend this type of racist - endless spending as us “protecting our borders” but I see it as a cruel, racist distraction from the fact Trump is robbing us all blind. Scum. I hope these ICE agents never know peace.

Ankhesenkhepra | 12 hours ago

Which is why people like Eminem can go f**k themselves for trying to “make nice” with MAGA. A misinformed and well-meaning Nazi is still a Nazi.

We need to stop playing nice with Nazis. Playing nice is what got us here, allowing white Christian fascists to express themselves by weaponizing freedom of speech/religion while stripping everyone else of their rights and human dignity every time they achieved power.

Some people do not deserve to reap the rewards of a democracy they plan to destroy.

This cop will never be capable of taking accountability so long as he’s dishonest with himself. “I’m just doing my job!” Okay, like you would be at Auschwitz, I’m sure. And the longer he’s in denial, the longer he’ll be under ICE’s thumb tearing families apart.

Ok_Whole573 | 15 hours ago

This guy is one of the most intrinsically evil people I can imagine…the most shocking thing about it all, even after he tears so many families apart, destroys his entire home town in the process, he actually knows what he’s doing is wrong…the whole time…that’s cartoonishly fucked up.

Ankhesenkhepra | 11 hours ago

It’s astoundingly easy for people to do overtly evil things so long as they believe the accountability lies with someone else. It really is the whole concentration camp guard mentality of, “I was just following orders! ~They~ told me to do it! I don’t have any real authority here!”

The Milgram experiment and even that art performance “Rhythm 0” that went horribly wrong are two prime examples of how batshit even average people become when they believe the responsibility isn’t theirs and actions have no consequences.

thisistestingme | 14 hours ago

It really is a banality of evil type situation.

MrsPandaBear | 14 hours ago

I appreciate propublica reporting and all that but even they can’t make me feel sorry for the cop. He was basically a mediocre guy who find found financial and career success by chasing after migrant workers on their way to work and tearing families apart. Such a big guy. And he felt guilty about it, but not enough to quit and find a job where he can spent it doing real cop duties. And that is how we fall into a fascist state, by employing mediocre people to do our bigoted leaders’ dirty work.

aceshades | 14 hours ago

i don't think the article is trying to make you feel sorry for him.

the ending pretty much wraps the thesis of the article pretty resolutely for me.

> “I know the status of everybody in this room,” he said. He suggested everyone who worked there was undocumented. Whether they disappeared or were allowed to stay was up to him. And today, at least, he was just there for breakfast.

> “They’re fine, right?”

it's describing a person who knows that a bunch of people he's patroning are undocumented and he has the power to decide what happens to them, while he's too dumb or too willfully ignorant to accept why they talk about him and vilify him under their breaths.

ehs06702 | 10 hours ago

He's the definition of the banality of evil.

ehs06702 | 10 hours ago

What a monster.

desiladygamer84 | 9 hours ago

No mercy for these people, monsters who live in our midst

Lock them up

HelgaG_Pataki | 15 minutes ago

“For context, I’ve deported like six of their family members, and they’re still friendly to me,” he says. “So I’m not the monster they make me out to be.”

The failure to realize this is a survival tactic to play into his ego is so revealing. These poor people feel they have to befriend the beast lest he turn on them.

lordalbusdumbledore | 4 hours ago

how can we ruin Jaron Alexander's life? tbf 80% of that town voted for this.

god.

Ok_Peak_890 | 2 hours ago

Nonsense, Ingr*m wasn't hit by any flood, and he was a unlawful alien, not a "neighbor". Sloppy newspaper ought to be hold accountable for spouting misinformation.
