Finally! I had been serving only JXL + JPG/PNG fallbacks since in recent times since the JXL tech was better (progressive decoding, a bit better with photographs) & the video codecs didn’t compress in a way I liked + I didn’t want the waste of tons of bytes uploading of multiple file type to static hosting. I was pretty mad the time they yanked it too since it was timed so oddly: around AV1 getting a boost from Google + the word being that websites weren’t hosting JXL files (& since users generally aren’t enabling flags, of course few were). Now the average Joe will get the savings.

Amazing! maybe now we can run in the browser those demoscene generative graphics that use the JPEG-XL operators to produce images. Article says that is still behind a flag though.
