I've used Unison for like ~2 years, and it's by far, really far, my favorite language to use. The weirdness budget is blown, there is the hashing and algebraic effects, but it's a very empathic functional programming language. My time is not spent on waiting for compile/build times. resolving dependency conflicts or playing type-tetris; I can just go write out business logic and code runs. The maintainers/community are also very cool & kind people.
I've deployed something to Unison Cloud a while back nowl: a KOReader sync service, and maintenance of it is really easy-going, like caring for some plants.
And now the Cloud part is also open source it means that advocating it is also easier! The way you can type out a database is really cool and should be the goal when focusing on ergonomics.
-- A really small peek into persisting data!
type Storage = {
postsById: OrderedTable UserId Post
}
After some initialization you can just use those types/data structures, and it'll persist! It's chef's kisses.
For those who haven't heard of it, Unison has some pretty neat ideas including hashing all functions which allows for instant deploys (it's like updating a pointer as I understand it) and has put in the work for how programming like that would work. It's a pretty different experience and now that they've opened up the cloud portion, it looks to me like an intriguing way to have lots of little services on your servers.

Will give Unison another look. Was always put off by the vendor lock in.
