I have to admit that this article buried the lede - it's way far down. Basically large-scale industrial flytipping, which the state is turning a blind eye to.
The family in this story have lost their entire livelihood: their income is from fishing in this lake and nothing will be able to live there for 15 years. They have received no compensation. They have additionally already paid half a million to prevent more health hazads by filtering out and burying over 15 truck loads of dead fish.
I recently had a son and it’s given me a new appreciation for the beauty of this planet. The fact that we have peaches to eat and bugs to watch, trees that shelter us, all of the different species and how absolutely weird they all can be. And we are just….fucking nuking the whole god damn thing.
I appreciate that there’s a lot we can do at the local level, but man I wish anyone in power would hold these corporations (or in this case, “family-run” businesses) polluting our planet accountable.
