Sounds like a war crime to me. Bring everyone involved up on charges.

And just so people understand this is not an accident, this is operating policy of the US/Israel and anyone who witnessed the genocide unfolding in Gaza will be familar:

Exclusive: Iranian girls killed by ‘double-tap’ strikes on Minab school

Eyewitnesses describe second blast which killed survivors as they sheltered in prayer hall

>The girls' school in Iran, where 165 people were killed by an apparent US-Israeli attack, was hit with two strikes, with the second missile killing sheltering survivors, two first responders and the parent of a slain child have told Middle East Eye.

And they will attempt to blame it on "AI" years from now:

It's basically Kissinger again

I know this gets used a lot, but would that constitute a "war crime"? The USA had not declared war (still have not) before attacking this possibly unarmed ship.

Drops like this make me wonder what options are available to civilians to depose the leadership

Yes, a submarine should surface and tell the Iranian ship to surrender all whilst being a sitting duck for them to attack. Very unserious post.

The sinking of an Iranian warship off the coast of Sri Lanka this week is something a US Navy submarine hasn’t done in more than 80 years and is another indication that Washington’s war with Tehran is taking on a scale and breadth also not seen in decades.

It’s also raising questions as to the broadening scope of the war with Iran.

The Pentagon released periscope video of the attack showing a ship that experienced a massive explosion to its stern as well as what appeared to be still frames showing the ship sinking beneath the waves.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi identified it as the frigate IRIS Dena, saying it had been lost 2,000 miles from Iran’s shores.

Sri Lanka reported it received a distress signal from the 1,500-ton frigate and dispatched ships and aircraft on a rescue mission. It reported rescuing 32 people, recovering 87 bodies, leaving the rest of the crew missing. Araghchi said there were 130 sailors aboard.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth described the sinking as a “quiet death.”

Araghchi called it “an atrocity.”

For additional context, the Iranian war ship had no armaments on board as it was participating in a naval exercise at the request of India. The US struck a defenseless ship and is BRAGGING about it

While Trump is an idiot, is the argument that a warship is not a valid target? If drones are used on “defenseless” and “unarmed” buildings with civilians in them by Iran, why is sinking an “unarmed” warship such a big deal?

I beleive the idea here is, it was hoped, that modern governments and societies had moved beyond unrestricted warfare.

This was a warship in name only, not functionality. This was not a shot that needed to be taken to protect American sailors, nor would the possession or loss of this “warship” affect irans ability to wage offensive actions. This would be like sinking the USS Constitution or Eagle; commissioned warships, yes,but not functionally used for that purpose.

Depends if you only aim to be on par with those you think are evil enough for you to justify killing, or you aim to be better than them?

Why not tell the full story CNN?

How are so may military officers knowingly breaking the law by following these orders?

LumberjackSueno | 5 hours ago

Why would an Iranian war ship be all the way over in Sri Lanka anyway?

peezd | 5 hours ago

They were invited by India and had participated in a joint exercise, were on their way back.

Mrhorrendous | 5 hours ago

...why would a US ship be there

EconMahn | an hour ago

There are US ships all throughout the world. But this submarine specifically was nearby Diego Garcia, one of the most important islands in the Indian ocean.

Mrhorrendous | an hour ago

>There are US ships all throughout the world

Why do you think that is?

EconMahn | 16 minutes ago

  1. Project power
  2. Defend trade
  3. Deter our enemies

dlogan3344 | 4 hours ago

Probably hunting an Iranian warship

Mrhorrendous | 4 hours ago

The ship was asked to come be a part of international naval review/maneuvers and was returning from near India. So they had a good reason to be there, unlike the US ship.

The us was also invited to said exercises.
