The day I turned 50, the screen in the pharmacy at CVS was all "Have you turned 50? You need the shingles vaccine!" and I was like "Leave me alone, CVS TV!"
Then I came home and saw a Reddit post about a shingles guy with sores on his balls and yada yada yada I just got my second shot a few weeks ago.
So frustrating. My mom has had shingles for several years. When one spot clears up, 5 more spring up in different parts of her body. She can't get the vaccine until there isnt anymore shingles. Shingles leaves scars and she looks like she has had shingles on every single nerve on her body and face.
Just FYI: make sure you have a couple of days of downtime. My SO reacted pretty strongly to both shots with fever, aches, headache. She made sure she had a couple of days with nothing to do. I don't think I reacted too badly though.
FYI, I had the Shringrix vaccine (both doses), and got shingles BUT it was no worse that a bout of poison ivy, and was completely gone with no scarring in two weeks.
People need to realize that vaccines are not 100% effective, but they DO lessen symptoms should you get a breakthrough case.
I've heard from UNvaccinated people that got it and they said it was the worst pain they ever experienced and it lasted months.

My father had shingles. My friends, you never ever want to go to there. Get your vaccine already.

The only time I saw my mother crying was when she had singles.

Your choice of the weekend is a good idea. :)

My wife and I both had minimal reaction to the vaccine. Minor arm aches at the injection site, no bad surprises.
