That's an interesting dilemma for Sabatini. Knouse probably can't pay the amount out of savings, so they'll have to garnish her wages. But if she gets fired, there's nothing to garnish. Does he want Knouse to be able to pay him, or does he want Knouse's career to be also ruined?
That entire situation seems like such a ridiculous mess. He was forced to resign after having an inappropriate relationship with someone he had a supervisory relationship with and creating a sexualized environment, but she apparently went way too far with defamation and retaliation. It sounds like such an awful working environment but unfortunately even being groomed into an unethical relationship doesn't entitle you to interfere with contracts.
You do know there's more going on here than just the single case? Did you miss reading that the article, because it goes into it a little. Not in depth, but it certainly included.
I'm not arguing that the defamation didn't happen.
If you break into my house and steal my TV, and then you do a year in prison for that, and once you're out, I go on a rampage telling everyone you actually killed my grandmother when you were in my house, and as a result your business fails. Just because I get found guilty of defamation doesn't mean you didn't rob my house.
There is no such thing as being declared innocent. Courts only decide on guilt (up to a certain standard, depending), not innocence. There is a MASSIVE difference.
He was not found guilty. That does not mean he was innocent. Just that the prosecution did not establish the case to meet the standard of a guilty verdict.
It also means he was not guilty. No one is waking around with I’m innocent badges. But many can be labeled guilty of something that they have no cause to be accused of.

Groomed into an unethical relationship?
Jeez dude, the guy was literally declared innocent with multiple legal cases on the matter and awarded damages even.

Did you not read the part where he was in a supervisory position over her, including when she was a student?
