I suspect we've only seen the tip of the iceberg of problem gambling in America. Think about how useless Congress is most of the time. Remember that sports books are excellent campaign contribitors, advertisers, and tax payers. There's very little incentive to regulate sports books, even though they're dangerous. Mark my words. 100% agree.. I’ve also noticed on YouTube almost all my ads are for sport betting apps… lucky for me I have no desire to gamble but it’s advertised everywhere for those who may be addicted.

Yeah, I give my dad credit. He let me and my brother bet with him some as kids. We almost always lost our allowance. He took the fun out of betting for us early on.
Modern society leaves a lot of people lonely and isolated. Sports betting gets advertised with fake camraderie. Anyone can get a piece of the action on their phone. It's easy to hide losses and brag about wins. It reminds me of old cigarette and alcohol ads. We regulated those. We should regulate gambling, too.

Congress had banned it nationwide but the Supreme Court struck that down and effectively left it up to individual states. So it's on the states now.
