Tonight on Dateline This Man Will Die. NBC's To Catch a Predator arrived in Murphy, Texas, to conduct a sting operation. The only honest thing that followed was the gunshot. [From 2009]
The gist of the story is a podunk local police department is overly in bed with a vigilantism-as-spectacle TV show, resulting in an incident where the presence of the show's camera crew amped the police up enough to call in SWAT for no good reason. To the home of a suspect who didn't even show up to meet the bait, which is legitimately bonkers. So the suspect allegedly shot themselves.
Then while still high on "reality" TV, the police pulled over one of the show's staff and stuck guns in his face. Based on a generic description from the show that "predators" might be headed their way while driving F-150s. In Texas, which clearly narrows down their imaginary citizens' APB.
All of that is bad, and the article repeats what is a well known fact by now that most of the cases generated by the show's actions are unprosecutable due to vigilantes not doing basic police work. Shocking, I know.
As someone in a relationship with the written word that makes most of my posts border on inappropriate PDAs: The article is, how do I put this, a little disorganized. Combined with its length, it drowns some of the bigger outrageous facts in a deluge of prose. Prose much more professional than my own, granted.
The attempt to build dramatic pacing and depict individuals both virtuous and flawed as emotionally compelling comes off instead as disjointedly lurid and results in some of the same decision making the article criticizes. Like mentioning consideration of "irrelevant" evidence, which is technically true based on the fact that no trial can now take place but doesn't read like that is what the author meant to convey so is itself kind of irrelevant to consider.

I guess i understand now why chris hansen is not happy with, nor condoning the new A24 film’s release. just a guess but This whole article will play out scene for scene in the finale of the film and leave viewer with questions and a big pit in their stomach. Just a hunch, haha.
I knew Chris H was a maniacal producer/show host, and i am not expecting anything less from Robert Pattinson. “If it bleeds it leads.”
Pattinson is going to represent Hansen’s character dynamics and “charm” (lack of a better word) exceptionally well.
The movie is gonna be twisted af.
