Hijacking the PS5's RTMP Stream

I don't understand why Sony doesn't just add native support for streaming to Discord, it was a bit of a surprise to me given they support voice. Perhaps it just boils down to the lack of support on the Discord side for receiving RTMP? (I'm not entirely familiar with the technologies involved here, so I might be asking the wrong question.)

Yup, Discord doesn't support RTMP, but I don't think that's really a blocker. They already use WebRTC for voice, so there's nothing stopping Sony from adding screen-sharing support (Xbox added this 3 years ago).

It's just ignorance on their end.

Probably because discord hasn't signed a big cheque.

All of Discord's voice and video stack is WebRTC, so it's definitely not as easy as "add another endpoint". I imagine they also don't want to support Discord's lowest common denominator codec, VP8, even though Discord supports h.264 and AV1 feeds (though I'd be surprised if any version of the PS5 has hardware acceleration for AV1). That might be a requirement for allowing that to be compatible.

I am more surprised why they don't add support for streaming to any RTMP endpoint...

There's a no AI tag at the end of this, but the whole website style and image are clearly AI-generated (or at least have all the hallmarks). I simultaneously hate how sensitive I am to this and how much it puts me off, while at the same time wishing I could just push past that and enjoy the article. But I can't, because the first thing I see is AI-generated, and it immediately makes me want to close the page. Honest feedback, sorry.

I guess theme and images are LLM-generated - "written by human" badge feels a bit weaker than "no AI" to me
