I feel like this article is off-topic. There is no technical merit, and there are no exmaples of the functions shown, as to how they're implemented.
I'd give it a pass? I've spent enough time debating org-vs-outline and outline-vs-magit-section that I'm happy for someone to shine a spotlight on the folding zoo; I wish we didn't need things like kirigami to xkcd#927 over all idiosyncrasies.
Granted, dunno if I take much away from the article (and tho I can relate to feelings of triumph after protracted noodling with Emacs quirks, I still found the prose too sensationalist). TIL about kirigami (cool to see them contributing fixes to outline!) and treesit-fold, but I don't feel strongly compelled to check them out, considering (a) *-ts-* modes can set treesit-outline-predicate nowadays (b) Org, outline and hideshow have somewhat converged on TAB as the One Key To Fold Them All in recent releases.
(Tho ACK that kirigami boasts support for oddballs like ibuffer; tho then again, switching back to "regular" list-buffers is somewhere on my TODO list, in part because it grew support for outline-minor-mode!)
Anyhoo; point being, dunno if TFA taught me much, but I could spend (& have spent) hours discussing folding in Emacs, so always happy to see the topic brought up.
