Criminalisation of climate protesters in UK is counterproductive, research finds. Study of 1,300 campaigners finds arrests, fines and jail terms increase determination of activists to take direct action.
I have a radical idea; maybe arrest big polluters, ceo's and corrupt politicians. Then create laws and policy that can save the planet and divide wealth more equally.
I know, might be a bit too radical. Back to jailing people that protest for a better world.
Well of course, at least in the United States, protesting sure is streamlining the prison industrial complex. Get a couple million people mad, at least a few will act out. Private prisons= ez money
Seems like the punishment isn't long lasting enough then. Suppose we found the same result for rape. We can combine long sentences with a good re-education program. We should partition violent people from society and fix the anti social mentality that led to the criminal actions in the first place.
Blocking roads and destroying public property is also counterproductive. You get more free time and less work opportunities with a record so this all checks out

Yes, but it makes the oil companies that drafted these laws, very happy.

You know what else is counterproductive? Governments failing to take any meaningful action against catastrophic climate change

The machine knows this and welcomes the escalation.

Good. Sounds like the best outcome, more determined protesters.

So we should let people break the law, because more people will?
chrispark70 | 19 hours ago
No, it's worse than that. The climate terrorists only become hardened to do it again if the law is enforced against them.
Most climate activists belong in prison.

Climate protestors absolutely should be "criminalized" and sent to prison for a long time.
Their antics just piss people off and they become less sympathetic to the cause.
