Now, dear reader, at this point you might be thinking to yourself “well gee wizz, that’s good and all but I don’t need my laptop to respond to notifications while its sleeping. Why should I bother with this newfangled S0ix stuff when I can stick to S3?”, and to that the unfortunate response is that most modern systems nowadays don’t come with S3 support at all anymore, having completely replaced it with S0ix.
This is super annoying. I have two Lenovo laptops running Linux that only support S0ix and they can barely go 12 hours before the battery is drained. Compared to previous machines that supported S3, which would happily go several days. I don't like S4, because it makes the startup process much slower than S3. S0ix makes it pretty much mandatory though, so now the overall experience is worse because Microsoft wanted to check for updates and receive notifications while the computer was sleeping. Great.
