Yikes. I used to use the Mac version and it was riddled with bugs and poor UX. Seems like this is all but a death kiss for those platforms (and general multiplatform support)
We are ending development of Orion for Linux and Windows, and we're open-sourcing both so the community can carry them forward. Kagi is stepping back from developing these platforms directly so our team can put more focus on Orion for macOS and iOS.
Linux: The current Linux Beta will keep working, but it will stop receiving updates from Kagi after October 2, 2026. We don't recommend using it as your main browser.
Windows: We had planned to launch Orion for Windows in late 2026. That release won't come from Kagi. Instead, the code will be available for the community to build on. If you signed up for the Windows newsletter, this will be the last update you receive from that list.
This is a shame. I really like using Orion on my iPhone and on my Mac, and was looking forward to using it on my work laptop. In its current state Orion for Linux is not really usable for a daily driver, especially for actual work. I really hope it does get picked up and carried forward; although I expect it’ll end up being quite different than Kagi originally intended. Heigh ho.
How is Orion Mac now? I used it a while ago, but had weird performance problems with 1password extension and websites breaking in ways seemingly unrelated to WebKit (they worked fine in safari). I am using Vivaldi now, but would love to go back to Orion.
I've not had any issues with it, that I can recall. My only real gripe is that the extension experience is inferior to that of Safari's. I miss being able to use the fingerprint reader to unlock the Bitwarden extension. But beyond that, no complaints!
I’m sort of happy to hear this. I’ve been using Orion off and on for years and more recently have been using it as my primary browser for at least a year. It’s usually fine and for the few websites that don’t work right, I just fire up another browser. But lately it’s been really bad on desktop with disappearing tabs (visually) and weird crashes. I need to post on their feedback forum… They have a good track record of fixing things documented there rather quickly (for the most part). I’ve switched back to Safari for now but look forward to their new focused releases. It’s been a minute since I’ve used Safari and it’s kind of nice now!

As unfortunate as it is, abandoning a project by open sourcing it for someone to continue it should be the god damn standard. Looking at you, Adobe.
