i got doxxed over posting kirk’s OWN words, thankfully did not lose my job. but i got graphic death & rape threats for months. it only has just slowed down
thank you, it was really awful. worst part was it was started by a republican state party account. i had to spend a few grand upgrading my security system bc these freaks found my address. i haven’t gotten anything since december though, so im hoping they’ve found something better to do with their time
Kirk’s death was treated like a republican 9/11. Meanwhile democratic senator Melissa and Mark Hortman’s deaths were ignored. Trump eventually posted on Truth Social that Tim Walz may have been part of a conspiracy to murder them.
Kirk himself felt that empathy was “a made up new age term that has done a lot of damage”. Well Charlie, rest assured I will waste absolutely none on you.
A senior Army lawyer was suspended for just this. Not mocking, not rude or aggressive. Suspended for a nuanced friends-only take. Absolutely ridiculous.
What I find interesting in this article is the lawyer calling out the hypocrisy of people getting fired for expressing their opinions about Charlie Kirk. It's a dead giveaway that this was never about freedom of speech or the first amendment - Charlie Kirk and his ilk are and always have been white nationalists.
I always thought it was a mistake for the right to try to canonize him like that. Most people who aren’t super plugged into politics and weren’t extremely online would have heard about the murder and thought it was tragic and senseless.
But having the government and corporate America trying to tell people how to feel and think about him as a person was an overreach and it ended up having the opposite of the intended effect. It turned mocking Kirk’s murder into a sort of counterculture thing which is probably not what they intended.
Can I just say how absurd it is that his murder keeps getting referred to as an assassination? He was not an elected official. He was a talking head for a political organization - big difference there. Everyone who gets killed is not assassinated - just a run of the mill murder.
Referring to him as having been assassinated implies importance that he had not earned.
He didn’t just argue on podcasts, he sometimes went to college campuses to argue IIRC. Those might have been recorded for his podcast though, I’m not sure.
It’s complicated. He was spearheading a political movement that has serious ramifications for local politics. He was important to the alt-right and involved in politics that meets the basic premise of an assassination. He was a podcaster and brought nothing but asinine discourse. He was not important to the general public. What it takes to be become important in our political culture is very low and that’s the problem. Also everything is more fractured due how people consume media now.
“I think it’s worth it. It’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God given rights.” - Charlie Kirk
I had dumbasses contacting galleries where I showed work years ago. Newsflash: I don't work with people who would take issue with me expressing my views. They KNOW my views, they hung shows of my work! These are art galleries!
Doxxing was always inevitable in this current climate. Which side gets fired for which posts seems to change depending on where the pendulum is currently swinging, but it will keep happening.

Should we start with first amendment rights as laid out in the first amendment?
EatMorePieDrinkMore | a day ago
That only applies to the government not private companies.

Read the article. It featured multiple persons fired from their state and local government jobs.

Government employees are often a special exception for restrictions on speech. The ACLU has a flow chart covering this.
ToughProgress2480 | 16 hours ago
That is for federal employees

Charlie Kirk hated free speech, women, minorities as much as he loved gun violence and being moronic.

I’ve seen some of the comments and they weren’t even making fun of him nor mocking the circumstances of his death.

"Signing off for awhile. Facebook is just too awful a reminder of where we find ourselves," she wrote in a post, which was visible only to her friends on Facebook. "Awful to see the number of people who say this is the fault of one side and in no way related to the proliferation of guns or the devolution of political discourse."

I had a very interesting conversation with my son that went like this:
Who was Charlie Kirk?
A Podcaster.
But what did he do?
Make podcasts.
But what did he do?
Make podcasts.
So what did he actually do?
Make podcasts.
But what else other than podcasts?
He argued with people.
On the podcasts?
Yes.
(He's 10.)
