Over the course of a six hour long or so deposition, Justin Fox, a former investment banker turned DOGE bro, refused to define what he believes counts as DEI; admitted he used ChatGPT to scan government contracts for terms such as “Black” and “homosexual” but not “white” or “caucasian;” and said that one of the grants he helped slash was “not for the benefit of humankind” before walking that claim back.
I watched all of Fox’s deposition from start to finish. The terse exchanges, the circular arguments, the pregnant pauses, all of it. The videos, available publicly on YouTube, were released as part of a lawsuit by the Modern Language Association, American Council of Learned Societies, and American Historical Association. They provide fascinating, or perhaps horrifying, insight into the thinking of someone inside DOGE. Even with Fox’s inability to answer seemingly easy questions, the responses are still illustrative of the recklessness and hamfisted nature of a group of young, inexperienced people who caused massive damage across the U.S. government, leading to negative consequences outside of it. DOGE as an organization has been linked to 300,000 deaths due to its cuts and multiple significant data breaches. All the while, DOGE did not actually reduce the government’s deficit.
Before joining DOGE, Fox was an associate at the Los Angeles-based private equity firm Nexus Capital. Now he is a co-founder of a company called Special, with Nate Cavanaugh, another DOGE member. Fox says the company is “buying businesses in senior care, adopting technology to pay the nurses and caregivers more, so that the aging population has enough nurses to meet the demand.” Before joining DOGE, he had no experience in government nor public grant administration, he says in the deposition.
None of this is surprising. The minute they went in gun blazing with a handful of interns, fired the career specialist and a 90 day plan to review decades of policy, it was going to bea Frankenstein hackathon. Once the first cuts were announced, it had the fingerprints of an LLM being fed the databases and having it paperclip the budget without a comprehensive context framework.
I hate thay it's an honest opening for me in the past year, like when they sent to Persian gulf 2 carrier strike groups and 75% of the tomahawk inventory and some people were dismissing a strike
Refusing to define DEI is a classic way of making purposefully vague requirements that can be spun for their own advantage whenever they need it to justify their action
He can explain it, but he’s not going to explain it on record in a deposition otherwise he’ll be accountable to that definition. He might as well as been in that room saying that he pleads the 5th. Let’s not be naive to believe he can’t remember what was in the EO and believes that was the definition of dei. That is CYA all over it.

America hates black people. This people were just more.overt in.their attack on us.
White liberals talk about niceties about "surfing cops to fight crime" etc. At least rhse folks are hobest enough with them selves to acknkelde their inherent racial biases
As I've gotten older I'm almost appreciative of their candor. White liberals pushing for mass incarceration, regressive policies that disproportionately impact margianialized groups and all the other ways they toss us under the bus given a mkemenr's notice are getting real tiring.
You alright there because not sure what you are trying to say let alone would almost actively have to ignore spell check for that nonsense to get posted.
Speaking as a trans person who faces either ambivalence or extermination, there's a clear line of demarkation.
But, I also agree that the liberal majority hasn't exactly been defending us from Trump. None of them even know what happens to us if we're arrested and sent to federal prisons, or state prisons in half the nation.
Yeah I think that's where our experience differrs. I don't see a clear line of demarcation at all. I just see white liberals smiling a little more while they supporttge exact same policies.
My go-to example, i live in San Francisco. Arguably America's most liberal city. After Black Lives Matter we elected a reform DA. We subsequently had a slight bump in crime (because of a little thing like a global pandemic.) The conventional wisdom in SF and elsewhere was the cause of crime was not putting enough margianialized people in cages. And the good liberals of SF didnt wait for the next election cycle, the recalled the DA. Followed up by removing our incumbent mayor in the next election.
Even in a city like SF the only "solution" to crime is more cops and more cages.
On the heals of all of this Gavin Newsom and the mayor flood the streets with CHP officers in an anti-crime "surge" . This surge weve recently gotten statistics on, tens of thousands of black and brown stops with very few arrests of serious criminals (which is exactly what these same white liberals compalin about the Trump admin's ICE and national guard surges).
Doesn't matter if it's Bill Clinto flooding the streets with cops to catch "super predators". Or Mike Bloomberg defending stop and frisk as a "price we have to pay to keep New Yorkers safe" or Gabin Newsom unleasing CHP officers to pull over thousands black peoole in exchange for a few possession arrests, fucking white liberals are ALWAYS up for tossing margianizeled people in cages for the misbegotten notion of "safety" (there are thousands of ways to actually increase public safety but white liberals only can imagine more cops on the street).
And the Trump admin/republicans just super charges that bullshit.
As we've been saying for generations, they start with us but they won't finish with us
So that's where I think our situations are possibly different. Both white liberals and conservatives will send cops to fuck people like me over, the difference is white liberals do it with a smile. Otherwise there is no difference.
> co-founder of a company called Special, with Nate Cavanaugh, another DOGE member. Needed a business they could their stolen healthcare data in?
Wow, "Special"...I can't imagine being so dumb and unimaginative that the best company name they can come up with is what their parents called them their entire lives.
Seriously. How in the world are they using technology to get nurses higher pay?
I understand that hypothetically they could use AI to increase the number of patients per nurse if the AI somehow reduces the workload (an awful idea in general), but there’s really not much that can be automated for nurses that hasn’t already had the technology widely implemented.
It probably won’t take long for a nurse to chime in to say that increased patient workloads doesn’t result in increased pay either. Not to mention, there’s already reports of nurses being told they’re dealing with a 1:1 patient all shift yet are still expected to handle multiple other patients during that shift.
The US already sweeps countless deaths in medical facilities under the rug. It’s actually a big part of why I stopped working in healthcare. I’ve genuinely lost count of how many deaths I’ve seen which were potentially avoidable if the medical facilities were upholding the standards they’re supposed to, and it’s very often due to excessive workloads for healthcare providers like nurses. It’s also worth mentioning that I got threatened to be fired and essentially be blacklisted by other hospitals/healthcare companies if I reported elderly patient abuse to the state authorities when I called out my manager for having lied to me saying he submitted the report on my behalf after I came to him with my concerns like I was supposed to. It wasn’t even the hospital I worked for, it was an elder care facility we had a contract with but according to the manager if word got out that the hospital reported other companies that other companies would cease doing business with us.
TLDR: sorry for the novel, I am just of the belief that our healthcare system has been shamefully bad for a while now and the continued attempts to extract every last penny done by people who have no actual experience in the healthcare field is only making it that much worse. These DOGE clowns truly are the worst of the worst and I bet their Special company is equally as nefarious.
I hope this dipshit gets his ass thrown in jail by the next administration. This needs to be one of the primary aspects to ask the next Dem presidential candidates. How important is it for the candidate to go back and find all the corruption/illigalities and prosecute them in a timely manner?
Now now, don’t be naive. He’ll either be rich enough to be above the law or he’ll have fled somewhere where there are no extradition treaties with the US.
This is clearly a 14th A violation and it's easy to see the civil penalties, but I can't think of criminal statute that was broken. Especially since almost all the criminal statutes for this stuff are directed at state officers and fed officers are purposefully left out b/c the assumption was that they would be the one enforcing it. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.
I’m not a lawyer and I don’t know the specifics. I am sure they broke all kinds of laws. Literally everyone in this administration breaks laws at will.
But there's a difference between a criminal law and a civil law. Jail time is only a penalty for violating a criminal law or a punitive contempt. If there's not something specific, this is just as dumb as the "lock her up" chants they did. If we want to enforce the Constitution, which I think should be the major priority at this point, we should be clear what we're talking about. This guy violated the equal protection provision of the 14th Amendment. He should be held to account for that. These guys came in from positions of privilege and just shit all over the Constitution and they should be punished for that. But we should be clear. I don't think saying the next administration should just continue violating laws b/c it's against people I don't like is any better. It's just different fascism.
Lol yeah, there'll be as much accountability for this as there was for the Iraq war when Obama got elected. Don't worry, I expect the next Dem leadership coalition to say we need to heal and move forward.
The entire Democratic campaign for the next 2 and 1/2 years should be accountability and affordability but they're still too stupid to understand that

Who is this guy? There is no information about him online. There is an article about the DOGE employees that listed a Joshua Fox but the picture is not this guy.

Paraphrasing, but this was their understanding of DEI:
“Do you know what DEI is? If so, how do you define it?”
Yes, I know what it is. It’s exactly what Trump stated in the Executive Order.
“And what did Trump say DEI was in the executive order?”
I forget. It’s whatever he said.
“What is YOUR understanding of what DEI is, I’m not asking about what was said in the EO, I’m asking YOU what YOU think DEI is.”
I think it’s whatever is in the EO.
These people were in charge of cancelling careers, grants, loans…yet they can’t even explain DEI at all, not one bit of it.

What kind of documents did they put on thumb drives? And copy on to their personal computers?

And is he as insufferable in person as he is on video? He appears to have the brain of a koala and the personality of wet cardboard.

It's interesting that any evidence of his existence seems to have been scrubbed from the internet.
megabeast2021 | an hour ago
Eh not so much — I still see him on instagram. I don’t follow but I just pulled up his account.

From KKK to ICE-holes. Just like the progression in Germany went from the Brownshirts to the full-on S.S. Little to no meaningful, relevant difference in nature, progression, *or* purpose. Fear, oppression, and conformity. We need to end this before the cost of ending it goes too high.

The last estimate I heard for the number of deaths due to the skeletonization of USAID was 700,000.
I have a friend who has worked there for 30 years and the stories she tells are heartbreaking.

How these guys actually answered a lot of those questions without "taking 5" is beyond me.
JadeDutch | an hour ago
Who is this guy? There is no information about him online. There is an article about the DOGE employees that listed a Joshua Fox but the picture is not this guy.

If Trump’s America has taught me anything over the course of two terms it’s that if you are white and unqualified you can make it just about anywhere in this country
You can be the president
Decide who gets funding and who doesn’t

I would like to see this data of how it is directly linked to 300,000 deaths.

The Doge of Venice National Fascist Party ruled Italy from 697-1797. I’ve yet to find any journalist to have written about the connection; which annoys me because Elon gets to think he’s clever that no one noticed. Doge_of_Venice

Well, this is damning.

Pretty sure it was named after the coin, Elon was hyping it long before DOGE. And the coin is named after a dog.

> After a doge's death, a commission of inquisitori passed judgment upon his acts, and his estate was liable to be fined for any discovered malfeasance.
This part I like.

The videos are from depositions related to lawsuits brought by groups hit by DOGE.
