Because the entire fucking thesis of conservative governance is "make government unworkable, unaccountable and untrustable and if the evidence doesn't fit my thesis I will force this circle peg in the square hole and make it work."
If it was simple about not engaging in progress for the sake of progress, I could absolutely understand that. Let me see the evidence and ROI you are claiming before we move forward. Yet we need to be so progressive on this AI roll out because otherwise we are just holding ourselves back! Crazy how you don't believe that for any social movement, which economic theory generally supports. Apparently progress only needs to justify itself when it threatens the status quo, when it promises unlimited returns to capital suddenly the burden of proof becomes optional.
Man, what fucking country are these people living in? THEY HAVE MADE YOU POORER... some estimate as much ~10k for a family of 4. Like, clue the fuck in ... you think after multiple decades these people would fucking at least step on a clue.
Providing a pretty boring, dispassionate response to your very...animated...post, but the phrasing is due to the fact that the survey question was framed as being forward-looking.
(Sorry, this is the econ forum, we can discuss survey methodology, can't we?!)
Compared to Biden's performance in the last year in office, Trump's performance is much worse.
Based on the 2024 growth rate, without the two market crashes Trump triggered in the spring of 2025 and 2026, the DOW would have crossed 60,000 last week, and the S&P would be around 8700
What happened to the "G0P is good for the economy"...or does that only work years after voters forget the previous fiancial disasters they've previously caused.
There's only 50 years worth of data clearly documenting this. And for 50 years, millions and millions of people have been voting against their own self interests, usually due to cultural and often religious wedge issues. And here we are.
Voting against their economic interests to protect their other non-economic/ideological interests.
They then decide how much it cost them afterwards. Sometimes they think it is worth it. Sometimes they don't.
I was reading the other day that if Trump hadn't bothered with Iran, things would look different as despite the tariffs and other things, economic figures were looking solid regardless.
Holy cow, are we finally opening our eyes? I don't want to hope that we are and be disappointed again during the midterms, so I'll wait until then to believe this.
The problem is that the economy is so fucked it's going to need 8-12 years of democrats in power to fix and the American public is too stupid and impatient to give the democrats that much time to fix shit.
Democrats will lie to the masses that AI job losses and pay cuts can be scaled back.
But we all know that is not going to happen. The Genie is out of the bottle.
AI is not the bubble. YOUR PAYCHECK is the bubble. It is time we retrain men for hard work. Let's drop the idea there are "jobs below us". Fields, Welding, Ship repair, asphalt paving, farming = REAL WORK.
They're working on robots to replace all of that, plus the whole "join a trade" think is a conservative pipe dream. People have been and wages are already collapsing.
I mean laying off white collar workers and retraining them in the trades thus compressing those wages is one way to pop the "paycheck bubble" that doesn't exist. This also doesn't factor in that white collar jobs drive demand for blue collar work.

Quick question. Do you actually believe that, or do you just believe that anyone here would be stupid enough to believe it if you lied about it?

They are already working on the robots they will use to replace the trades. It’s coming much much sooner than you think.
