The fact that we take a conscious being’s one single chance to live on this earth and force it to spend it in pain and suffering, right up until the end makes me sick
If more people had to slaughter their own animals to eat meat, way fewer people would eat meat. I do not understand people who claim to care about animals or the environment, who eat a lot of meat (especially pork and beef).
That’s a popular talking point, but for most of human history, people would slaughter their own meat. People would definitely eat less meat because of the work and resources involved, but I doubt that way fewer people would eat meat.
Allowing companies and organizations to legally bribe our legislators is a huge problem. Factory farming procedures are wildly unpopular with most Americans, and these groups bribe, bribe and bribe to get ridiculous laws passed (ex banning lab grown meat in FL, ag-gag laws in general, etc).
I cannot imagine any amount of money that would cause me to fight for the right to torture animals.
It’s funny, these people probably don’t even think about the vulnerability of these animals nor care of their suffering, yet I’d argue it’s this exact line of thinking that makes said people subhuman.
I remember working with a guy that thought it was funny a truck heading for a slaughterhouse got into an accident and pigs were dying in the road from injuries. So fucking dark.
That's kind of the point: the folks who insist on torturing food-animals do so to, among other reasons, assert their dominance over the 'dumb beasts' to assuage their own fears of life without wielding that kind of power.
From the other direction, building up the kind of psychological resilience to accept that, sometimes, they can't have pork and eating something else requires humility and letting go of the entitled attitude to the contrary, and some folk just can't bring themselves to cross that level of maturation.
If you eat animal products, you are more than likely funding this. The people making these decisions hide behind ‘giving customers what they want’. If you read this and keep buying these products, you’re telling them that this is what you want.

This is absolutely not true. The majority of slaughterhouse workers live in communities with very few jobs or are undocumented workers with few other choices. They have some of the highest rates of suicide and depression of any industry because it’s such an awful job. It’s not an excuse, but it is a cause. Ignoring that fact helps no one.
