15-25% year-on-year from April in dollar terms, across Central Asia, with the fuel shortage arriving just as diesel was needed for the autumn harvest.
Kyrgyzstan imports over 90% of its petrol and diesel from Russia,
and banned its own fuel exports in July, seeking an alternative supplier from China, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan that has fallen short so far.
Russia supplied 91.1% of Tajikistan’s petroleum imports and 95% of Mongolia’s supply – both of which are now facing severe fuel scarcity. ”
Ukraine has intensified its strategy of targeting Russian energy infrastructure to disrupt energy security across Russia. As a result, Russian production has fallen to 70% of domestic supply, whilst fuel shortages and rationing programmes have been reported in 80+ regions. Crimea has effectively been placed under siege - resulting in a severe disruption, whilst Central Asian countries scramble to locate alternative suppliers now that Russia has banned exports. Ukraine has also been striking Wildberries and Ozon warehouses as part of their campaign to pressure the Russian economy.
Doubt it. Russians have been throught worse. I also think that there a fear that if their government collapse they will end up in a much worse position.
Well, listening to Steve Rosenberg’s video today, it sounds like the government has managed to purge all anti-war parties from the voter rolls for the upcoming election. So I don’t know how much hope I’d hold out for any changes anytime soon.
With all due respect to Steve, the war isn’t the only issue involved in the midterms and not all people who object to an unauthorized war are part of an anti-war party.
The current machinations are not the actions of a party that thinks they’re going to cruise to victory.
It’s more likely that it will depend on voter turnout.
Naive really to think voting in Russia is anything other than just a well rehearsed act. With the candidate lists curated to the point there is no alternative, it does not matter what you vote.
