Of course they’ll do it if given the opportunity. The school is reckless for entrusting millions to one guy with no oversight.

That's an insane amount of money. Lamar Odom was paying $15,000 a day for round the clock service at a brothel for a 5-day period and people clown on him hard.
This guy was paying over $5,000 a day (approximating base don some figure and dates in the story) to talk to a camgirl over a thousand miles away for fourish years.
This is wild to me because when I was a lowly resident assistant and front desk associate at a university it was beaten into our skulls to never purchase a gift card with university funds and all the crap we can’t buy. Yet a fucking accountant can just do whatever? Damn.
It's pretty funny the university going after all these people saying that they should have known the money wasn't coming from a legitimate source, it was the universities money and they didn't even realise it was being used illegitimately!
As an accountant, the university must've had piss poor financial controls for him to get away with it this whole time. Even in very small non-profits, usually there's dual approval for payments or a comparison of budget vs spend to track any unusual expenditure.
The university should be sued for entrapment or negligence, letting someone so stupid steal so much from them. This is hyperbole, but seriously, they are as much at fault as anyone for leaving the candy jar unattended.
