This is so damn funny. US DAILY consumption of diesel is ~500k tonnes.

This is just over half a days consumption. What a show!

And God knows what this President gave the Russians for it. The Starlink "outage"? Yeah...

And why is it the media only uses tons in this case?

ButtStuffingt0n | 4 hours ago

That was also incredible! In 10 years reading about oil/energy trading, I've only ever seen that in obscure, European trading articles.

Obviously, to report higher numbers the average guy can't quickly convert to barrels in his head.

Ok-Boomer-4414 | 4 hours ago

Higher numbers? It would be about 2 million barrels.

No, I did not do that in my head. But I could now that I know the conversion

ButtStuffingt0n | 4 hours ago

My point is most people won't even make the attempt. And even if they do, they won't know if the barrel number matters anyway. So they shrug and move on.

But 2 million is 7X higher than the 288K being touted, so I don't know what you did there but prove my point.

I thought you were saying they used tonnes because it is a bigger number and people think bigger number is more

The concept of the tonne to the Americans is that it’s for smart people and it is expensive.

grumpyliberal | 3 hours ago

Because they are stenographers, not journalists. The administration said “tonnes” and the dutifully wrote it down.

Welcome to the circus

12.5 hours worth of fuel for America, or 52% of a days supply.

I’d wager in 20 years time we’ll find out that Trump exchanged all the data that Elongated Muskrat extracted during his DOGE campaign. Putin’s pretty happy with Musk lately, calling him a genius and whatnot…

Half a day supply of anything can make a decent change in price depending on degree of demand elasticity

grumpyliberal | 3 hours ago

Ok- Boomer. Whatever you say. Lmao.

Ok-Boomer-4414 | 3 hours ago

It’s just basic economics

grumpyliberal | 3 hours ago

Emptying the ocean with a teaspoon. That’s not economics, it’s fuzzy math.

JC_Everyman | 4 hours ago

It's not like we got it for free

Ok-Boomer-4414 | 4 hours ago

Of course not. But my understanding is that we are approaching a legitimate supply shortage of diesel

--Unxpekted-- | 3 hours ago

So how does one half day of consumption actually help that? Buying it from a strategic enemy? Bypassing your own sanctions to do it?

Sorry man. You fell for it bro.

H4RDCORE1 | 2 hours ago

Yeah, sorry but half a days supply of diesel is not going to influence a market the size of America. You're talking about 90.7 million gallons being added to a market that consumes around a 168 million gallons per day. I can't see that having any meaningful effect past political optics for the ill informed and ignorant.

adamwho | 5 hours ago

Do you want to bet that oil companies will purposely take a loss on diesel over the next week to help the Republicans?

It doesn't even matter if the diesel actually gets to the US.... It isn't enough to change anything.

Egad86 | 4 hours ago

It is equivalent to roughly 10 hours worth of US daily diesel consumption. That is how much is on these ships.

That is all it took for the traitor in chief to sell out our allies in Ukraine.

Not a change in hell they will port in the USA. Laws set in place by Congress in 2022 make it illegal to import or purchase Russian petroleum products into the USA. Owners, operators, insurance companies, and buyers will get sued if they try. The tanker that was said to be on the way to New York got stopped for this very same reason. I really doesn’t matter. USA produces 5 billion barrels of diesel per day. We export 1.5 billion barrels to South America and Europe every day. Russian oil would make zero difference in the market. It’s a smoke show.
