Pierre Damas Bel was an avid soccer player at his high school in Springfield, Ohio. He loved being part of JROTC, the US military-sponsored program that provides training to students. And friends and family say he headed to college planning to study neuroscience and excited about the future.
But as the 20-year-old Haitian immigrant began his freshman year at Wright State University, his loved ones say he became increasingly depressed over the ankle monitor he was issued in late July by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The device, they say, sidelined him from playing soccer, stopped him from getting a new ROTC uniform and prompted bullying from some of his classmates.
On Monday morning, the college student made a video call to his father in distress.
I hate every mother fucking Republican more than I can possibly describe and I hate that Reddit won't allow me to come close to describing how great my hated and contempt for them is.
I will never ever forget or forgive how wickedly evil and rotten they are for as long as I live. I will never mourn the death of any Republican until the end of time. Even if I somehow outlive the death of the sun I will still be damning them to burn in hell and it still won't be enough.
Welcome to a systemic feature of platforms. It's okay for politicians to talk about policies that kill you because they're just abstract policies. It's against the rules to talk about killing politicians and executives that are killing people every day because that's against the Terms of Service.
Whether you admit it or not, you're still far enough in your comfort zone to not actually do anything about it though. They have made sure you still have something to lose if you actually take action of any kind.
What a beautiful young man. The world has lost an angel. A curse upon the Administration who caused this. May his soul have peace. My heart goes out to his family.
I do think putting people who didnt commit a crime on a tether is wrong, but I really dont understand how somebody would kill themselves for having one, regardless of it the did something to deserve it. Theres tons of reasons to want to off yourself, but I just dont get how this is one. Am i missing something?
You don’t think that the fear that everything you worked for might be for nothing when you are sent to another nation against your will and having done nothing wrong is enough to make a young person despair? Suicide happens when a person feels like there is no other way.
He had an ankle monitor because Haitians protected status has been revoked. That means his whole life could be turned upside down at any moment, for no reason at all. What he said to his family was one thing. What a person might feel facing those circumstances to jump into highway traffic is much more than humiliation.

While I agree, his classmates who bullied him need to be dealt with and are pieces of shit as well.

I dont see that in the article. I see that he is said to committed suicide due to shame of wearing an ankle monitor.

Thats the big true true

Try to have a little more depth in your thinking.
Shame
Fear
Classmates bullying him
Deportation
A lot of things going on in his life.
It’s not “just an ankle monitor”
