This could be worth reporting on.the only downside is how common cops act like this. Cop loses it at man asking him to do his job and help his kidnapped son
I’m glad to see this piece of shit cops fat face and name plastered all over my Reddit feed. I hope it gets enough attention to where he can’t leave his house without getting harassed for being such a loser.
Not even, for a population with this many guns and this much animosity, we have shockingly little political violence.
I always think about an example where medieval Greeks fought their own soldiers barehanded because the church had changed the standard prayer in a way that slightly implied they were taking a different side in some really hard to follow theological dispute. Or the English shooting each other over like a 5% tax.
I’d like to think we don’t shoot each other because we are against violence, but really I think we are spoiled cowards
I think the latter definitely plays a part, but given enough pressure everything breaks, even people. The problem is when the violence starts it has the propensity to get really really bad. Having said that being on the revolution man, some fuckers need to come back down to earth and see what us mere mortals have to suffer.
no. I assure you not. I have airplane money i can come teach you. Your issue is you think every man is subservient like you. I know it is a conservative thing. you know your place, always an authority over you. I dont respect that.
Former police officer here. I am BLOWN AWAY by this.
Fuck this cop. I would not back him on calls. A use of force for a guy standing next to his car. The citizen, clearly unhappy but not making threatening movements or statements, fails to step back while on a public sidewalk???
I’d get disciplined at my agency for this. The fact that he was found guilty is infuriating without some other context I missed.
My best friend's dad is a cop, and he told us he would regularly provoke citizens to exit their home so that he could tackle them to the ground and arrest them for bogus charges. Most cops are thugs, bullies, and cowards. There are a few good ones. Lots of the good ones turn due to their environment. I don't trust any of them. I feel less safe whenever cops are around. It's an organized, legalized gang. You know that cops original purpose was to catch fleeing slaves right? They've never been good, they never will. Fuck you guys.
Bullshit, you'd run to protect him and cover his bullshit just like any other cop. There's a reason his department found his use of force.justified, and it isn't because pigs are good people.
Negative, ghost rider. Officers where I worked would never have done this. This is “contempt of cop” from what I can tell.
But I forget that it really matters what part of the country you’re in. If you’ve never experienced other agencies, I can see why you’d assume ACAB - but ACAB is categorically incorrect.
And for the record, I’d call a supervisor, help calm the officer down, ensure medical was en route to check on the guy.
Call a supervisor, calm down your fellow officer, and ensure medical was enroute...
but not arrest your fellow officer for assaulting someone. This is why no one buys your idea of accountability. This is why "we investigated ourselves and found no wrong doing" is a full ass meme at this point.
I didn’t say that was my idea of accountability. I said what I’d do in the moment. Cops don’t have “all the authority” to do “whatever, whenever,” that includes arresting fellow officers. They’re not judge dredd.
A rank and file officer is not the person to unilaterally make a decision to arrest a fellow officer. There is a conflict of interest. That decision rests with the internal affairs and detectives who investigate.
If you cannot arrest one group of people committing a crime in front of you. Why can you arrest another group of people committing a crime in front of you?
Does the law not apply equally to all people? Is your duty not to the public as a whole?
And there lies the crux of the issue doesn’t it? Even if the situation is counter to your personal “idea of accountability”, to the public, you might as well be endorsing whatever the other cop did or whatever internal affairs decides, which is more often than not “no wrong doing”.
I’m not even suggesting that’s inherently your fault, but if the system is setup so that a cop literally can’t stop another cop who’s actively breaking the law, then from the outside, there’s no real way to separate yourself from the lawbreaker. If you were a getaway driver for a bank robber who shot a person, you’d be charged as an accomplice to murder, even if that wasn’t part of the plan, but you’re basically given a pass to play a similar role for a bad cop.
So to be clear you wouldn't actually physically do anything to stop this if you were there?
Is the correct response to seeing assault as an officer not to subdue the criminal, and put them in cuffs?
What you're claiming you would do is to calm them down the criminal (not actually stop them during the act of committing violence against another human being), and then call someone to do PR for the department.
No, he wouldn't. That's why he doesn't get why ACAB is a thing.
He doesn't quite grasp that the appropriate response from him is not "call a supervisor, calm his buddy down, and call medical to check on him", but to throw his buddy on the ground and cuff his ass.
Anything less is helping his friend, not the citizen that was just attacked.
I could, in detail, explain my reasoning along with examples. And if you were so inclined to request it, I would write it out for you.
But I genuinely don’t believe there’s anything I could say to make you satisfactorily understand.
The issue is you’ve never been on-scene as a cop with fellow officers. so the perspective Id offer would be foreign, and to you “wrong,” and “excuses.”
I stand here denouncing this dickheads actions, but the nuances of policing isn’t something you would accept. Experience it and you’ll understand.
What nuance was being missed? You said this officer did something illegal. You also said you wouldn't have arrested him for doing that illegal thing. What am I missing?
If the answer is arresting an officer is not that simple then you're missing the point.
Why write all this if you could explain why what you described is the correct thing to do? Unless you can't.
But fuck it I'll ask. Please explain why immediately stopping an assault, and then arresting the perpetrator is not the correct thing to do as an officer?
I'd also be interested to hear what you do if you saw a citizen jump out of their car, and start assaulting someone too? Would you try to calm them down or would you physically stop them?
If the answer is different for the cop vs the citizen please explain why?
What you'd do in the moment, while another police officer is attacking a civilian, is call a supervisor, try to calm him down, and ensure medical? Not, you know, actually protect the civilian that it's ostensibly your job to protect?
And you're supposedly one of the "good" ones.
People don't think ACAB is true because they think all police officers are like the one in this video. They think ACAB is true because the best case scenario is an officer like you.
That old fat fuck is going to get an early retirement in order to make this all go away. It’s much harder to go against the police unions (they will surely back this officer) than it is to pay for an early retirement.
It's outrageous we live in a place where we fund these people and they basically get immunity to act how they want. How have we ended up in a society where we pay for cops, it is a service they provide for money. And yet they have laws and protections in place to do shit like this regularly and again we pay the settlement, they move cops around and we pay for their retirement.
That's SOOOO horrible...and no need at all for that response... there was NO threat to the officer at all... the guy was acting like anyone would who is asking for help from police... I'm glad it's recorded.... it's no wonder that ICE act like assholes too... Americans against Americans...we are in trouble not only for our country but for humanity.... we don't need to worry about being bombed...we seem to be annilating our selfs...
not against police, there really good, well meaning people serving, but from what I've seen there is something unique about Arkansas police in regards to tactics and attitudes
Had a similar issue at a job about 30 years ago. I was asked to sign a write up for something I wasn’t working the day of.
Told the manager to look at the discrepancy (my schedule vs. the date of the implied infraction, and he just stars blankly at me and says “I just need you to sign it.”
I go in there about once a week and bust his chops. And not the good-natured kind.
Once again I am shocked , absolutely flabbergasted, that law enforcement acted this way. They only do it daily , without provocation, without reason, to show their entitlement to brutalizing citizens. F the cops. They don’t want to help you, they don’t want justice, they want to close cases (doesn’t matter if it’s correct), and cash out their pension. State sponsored crime and protection schemes.
I think “fucking spaz” is the phrase we would have used to describe this cop, way back when. Extremely embarrassing lack of self control and an apparent propensity to imagine a threat where there is none.
Cop needs to be fired. That was excessive and unnecessary. Not the proper way to deescalate.
That being said, the gentleman that got thrown down and KO'd, probably should have continued stepping back when being asked/told to. No need to continue to provoke an already angry person, especially a police officer.
I know you mean well bud, but there was absolutely no reason for the cop to act that way, period. I hope the precinct gets sued into oblivion and that cop gets a job as an icecream store security. Would also like him to "accidentally" fall down, several times, preferably twice per fall to be sure.
brother, I said the cop should be fired. but also if if someone's being a bastard, you don't keep provoking them. both parties have to de-escalate or try to.
The onus is on the police officer with the gun, not the unarmed citizen who is looking for his missing son. I don't care if he was standing there yelling obscenities at him, words don't leave me with a concussion. If you want to be a police officer you need to be held to a higher standard. Unless that man had a weapon and was aggressively approaching the cop, none of that was necessary. Just because you have a badge doesn't make you magically better than me, it just means you peaked in high school and life isn't going your way.
The onus is on everyone involved in any altercation. If you've got somebody pissed off at you and they're acting volatile, do you keep prodding them? I know that words can't hurt you but some people still react to them. I don't see any reason to continue provoking just back off, let him do their thing and fight him in court later. I mean he's definitely going to get to do that now but at what cost? Does he have brain damage from the head injury? Was it worth it at that point? not trying to say the guys that fault and that he deserved what the cop gave him and if that's what you read that you've completely misunderstood what I'm saying.
I just don't believe that putting myself In harm's way for verbal altercations is worth it. You just never know when someone's going to snap.
Your argument is extremely valid, when it involves two peers having a disagreement. It does not apply when there is a massive power dynamic mismatch. Like I said earlier, if you are a police officer you are held to a higher standard. If you cannot maintain that's standard or find it unfair, quit. I hear so many cops saying how we'll all be sorry when there's no cops, put your money where your donut hole is.
I dont disagree with you on police officers being held to a higher standard. Too many of them just arent mentally fit for duty and are too hot headed or power trippy. The police officer should have just shut his door and left. But if I were that gentleman situation I wouldn't stand there and continue to provoke him. It no just isn't worth it to me. I learned a long time ago that some hills just arent worth dying on.
Thank you for being reasonable and not just calling me a bootlicker lol.
Forgive them, they're responding with emotion. I was (and sometimes still am) as bad as them. The difference is I got older and realized yelling at each other wasn't solving anything and am trying to be the change I want to see in the world. Like I said, your point is totally valid, and honestly the recommend response everyone should ideally follow, but like you said there are so many people with short fuses and itchy trigger fingers. The crux for me is even if I, the civilian, am being difficult or unreasonable, your response needs to be measured and appropriate. I personally don't want to live in a society where I'm more afraid of the police than actual criminals. This kind of behavior further fuels that distrust and fear and honestly does more damage to the cops than anyone else. Btw I am not an ACAB guy, I have friends in law enforcement and the military and am acutely aware that it's not the easiest job in the world (of course dependent on where you work/serve, role, etc.). It would be disingenuous of me to blanket state they're all assholes and need to be disbanded, but there absolutely has to be more accountability for cops when it comes to these situations. I genuinely want to be able to see a cop and not instantly clench my butt so hard I turn my turds to diamonds. And don't worry about the others again bud, like I said they're responding from a place of emotion, hear the message, ignore the form. Be well buddy!
You too brother or sister or they/them)! I guess I'm just lucky I live in a small town. The cops here are all pretty cool, easy to get along with and not a problem.
And I ain't mad at these people. People got their own opinions. I'm just trying to offer alternatives views. More of a lesson in how keep yourself from getting slammed into concrete and knocked unconscious or shot I guess. 🙂
That honestly sounds so nice man, wish we all had that. Make sure you let those cops know they're doing a good job bud, we need to let them know when they're doing something right just as much as when they're doing something wrong. And FFS people try (like really try) to be better. I have hope for us, but we have got to be better to each other.
False equivalence. Manner of dress is not provocation and anybody that considers it provocation enough to rape doesn't deserve to be a part of society.
You need to understand that this advice means nothing when we're dealing with rights violations. You're basically being the guy that blames a girl for getting raped for wearing a short skirt. The man did nothing wrong. Completely in the right.
The hell I am reread my comments and think about them a little bit. the cop was completely unjustified and what he did wasn't deserved by the gentleman. I'm just saying why take unnecessary risks knowing that some cops will do these kind of things?
It wouldn't matter if it was a cop or just a random person on the street. if they're being volatile I just leave. there's no need to escalate and get into a fight. potentially get shot, killed, brain damaged or whatever.
"The man that raped that woman was completely unjustified and should get the death penalty, Im just saying why take unnecessary risks by wearing skimpy clothing in that environment knowing that guys rape women?"
A good example of setting your priorities. When your son is “abducted”, do nothing about that but gather the whole family and stand around and film yourself antagonizing a police officer.
The ACAB narrative it lends itself to when “defund the police” is literally the most unpopular leftist idea in modern politics today. Yes it’s police brutality, but lately all of the posts I see are men or women behaving badly being made into a gender issue, botched executions, or themes that touch on other wedge-issues that divide us along cultural lines rather than anything that affects everyday Americans. Elevating the worst fringes of society to our eyeballs constantly is what keeps us fighting with each other and is the crowning achievement of the century for the American aristocracy.
The right consistently comes to power off of culture war issues. That's their whole thing.
Then they cut taxes for the rich, get us into a war and remove social safety nets.
So saying that people think we should be changing how we do policing is in any way the problem is so unbelievable ignorant and partisan that I'm not sure how you made it out of the echo chambers
I never said we shouldn’t criticize how policing is done. This happened over a year ago, and it’s only being posted now, a month to go before the election. I could see how this would be important news to make a change for the election of a judge or county sheriff, but none of these things are mentioned in the OP, it’s just posted to a random subreddit. Generally, not everyone is a victim of police brutality, or other difficult fringe issues that have no easy solution. And while everyone deserves justice, spending disproportionally more time fixating on the absolutely worst perceived injustices we can conjure up on the internet, where the worst of humanity is available on-demand 24/7, does nothing to fix any of the problems in society. It summons performative outrage from everyone who sees it. The solution proposed? Post an angry comment on a social media outlet. Nothing gets changed, but people feel good about themselves after. And then one or two comments get taken out of context and go to fuel the outrage machine on the other side. Rinse and repeat.

Because we're all fucking sick to death of cops continuing to get away with this kind of shit. ACAB forever.

Saying forever makes it seem like you want it that way forever.

One look at your comments says all we need.
Unfortunately, you probably know you are the problem.
Get an education...if you can read.

Cop needs to be fired. That was excessive and unnecessary. Not the proper way to deescalate.
That being said, the gentleman that got thrown down and KO'd, probably should have continued stepping back when being asked/told to. No need to continue to provoke an already angry person, especially a police officer.

You ok?

Neither a stop nor a detention so he had no authority to give orders to a law abiding civilian on his own property.
What a bootlicker take.
fallenangel512 | 4 hours ago
I know you mean well bud, but there was absolutely no reason for the cop to act that way, period. I hope the precinct gets sued into oblivion and that cop gets a job as an icecream store security. Would also like him to "accidentally" fall down, several times, preferably twice per fall to be sure.
junaitari | 4 hours ago
brother, I said the cop should be fired. but also if if someone's being a bastard, you don't keep provoking them. both parties have to de-escalate or try to.
fallenangel512 | 4 hours ago
The onus is on the police officer with the gun, not the unarmed citizen who is looking for his missing son. I don't care if he was standing there yelling obscenities at him, words don't leave me with a concussion. If you want to be a police officer you need to be held to a higher standard. Unless that man had a weapon and was aggressively approaching the cop, none of that was necessary. Just because you have a badge doesn't make you magically better than me, it just means you peaked in high school and life isn't going your way.
junaitari | 4 hours ago
You just never know when someone's going to snap.
fallenangel512 | 4 hours ago
Your argument is extremely valid, when it involves two peers having a disagreement. It does not apply when there is a massive power dynamic mismatch. Like I said earlier, if you are a police officer you are held to a higher standard. If you cannot maintain that's standard or find it unfair, quit. I hear so many cops saying how we'll all be sorry when there's no cops, put your money where your donut hole is.
junaitari | 4 hours ago

Be well buddy!
junaitari | 3 hours ago
You too brother or sister or they/them)! I guess I'm just lucky I live in a small town. The cops here are all pretty cool, easy to get along with and not a problem.
And I ain't mad at these people. People got their own opinions. I'm just trying to offer alternatives views. More of a lesson in how keep yourself from getting slammed into concrete and knocked unconscious or shot I guess. 🙂
fallenangel512 | 3 hours ago
That honestly sounds so nice man, wish we all had that. Make sure you let those cops know they're doing a good job bud, we need to let them know when they're doing something right just as much as when they're doing something wrong. And FFS people try (like really try) to be better. I have hope for us, but we have got to be better to each other.

This is abuser logic. "You made me do it"
junaitari | 3 hours ago
False equivalence. Manner of dress is not provocation and anybody that considers it provocation enough to rape doesn't deserve to be a part of society.
Tidbitious | 4 hours ago
You need to understand that this advice means nothing when we're dealing with rights violations. You're basically being the guy that blames a girl for getting raped for wearing a short skirt. The man did nothing wrong. Completely in the right.
junaitari | 4 hours ago
The hell I am reread my comments and think about them a little bit. the cop was completely unjustified and what he did wasn't deserved by the gentleman. I'm just saying why take unnecessary risks knowing that some cops will do these kind of things?
It wouldn't matter if it was a cop or just a random person on the street. if they're being volatile I just leave. there's no need to escalate and get into a fight. potentially get shot, killed, brain damaged or whatever.
Tidbitious | 4 hours ago
"The man that raped that woman was completely unjustified and should get the death penalty, Im just saying why take unnecessary risks by wearing skimpy clothing in that environment knowing that guys rape women?"

A good example of setting your priorities. When your son is “abducted”, do nothing about that but gather the whole family and stand around and film yourself antagonizing a police officer.

Not to take away from the story but… more culture wars stuff right before midterms?
wishfulwash | 3 hours ago
How is this culture wars? It’s just police brutality.
No-Performance3044 | 3 hours ago
The ACAB narrative it lends itself to when “defund the police” is literally the most unpopular leftist idea in modern politics today. Yes it’s police brutality, but lately all of the posts I see are men or women behaving badly being made into a gender issue, botched executions, or themes that touch on other wedge-issues that divide us along cultural lines rather than anything that affects everyday Americans. Elevating the worst fringes of society to our eyeballs constantly is what keeps us fighting with each other and is the crowning achievement of the century for the American aristocracy.
Accomplished_Mind792 | 3 hours ago
The right consistently comes to power off of culture war issues. That's their whole thing.
Then they cut taxes for the rich, get us into a war and remove social safety nets.
So saying that people think we should be changing how we do policing is in any way the problem is so unbelievable ignorant and partisan that I'm not sure how you made it out of the echo chambers
No-Performance3044 | 2 hours ago
Accomplished_Mind792 | an hour ago
That's what the defund the police movement is. Are you seriously that ignorant of the topic but still feel free to comment on it?
The rest of that is a vague and meaningless diatribe to dismiss injustice, that doesn't have anything to do with anything.
