Bangladesh had a great vaccination program. Past tense, had.

>Then came 2024.

>The long-time regime was ousted and an interim government took charge. During its 18 months in power, the temporary leaders decided to revamp the vaccination system. The new plan did not go smoothly.

>There were bureaucratic delays. Soon, the country's vaccine supply was disrupted. The shots became unavailable; immunization campaigns were postponed.

>This did not go unnoticed. Rana Flowers — the UNICEF representative to Bangladesh – said in a press conference on May 20 that she had repeatedly warned the government over the past two years that the delays could trigger a crisis. "I sat with the interim adviser and the staff on at least 10 occasions saying, 'We are worried. Look at my face. I am worried. You're going to face a mountain,' " recounted Flowers.

They didn't purposefully kill the vaccination program, it was incompetence rather than malice.

The United States is about a year behind. Hopefully the minor outbreaks we saw last year and earlier this year were enough of a warning that families will get their kids vaccinated despite the current push against vaccines.

You must not know any of those MAGA or religious parents to think anything other than Trump or their church telling them to do it will make a difference . Parents who have had their children die said they still would not vaccinate.

>Parents who have had their children die said they still would not vaccinate.

Adults who were dying from covid were still saying it was a hoax. These people are lost.

Remember Herman Cain? People who already died from Covid were still posting on Twitter that it was a hoax.

Trump doesn’t care who dies during his reign.

I believe otherwise. I believe he gets a personal sexual thrill out of knowing he has caused the deaths of large numbers of people.

Why do they say things like "everyone is ignoring", nodbody is ignoring it, like what are we supposed to do? Tweet about it? Thays stupid

It’s supposed to be a warning for the US, because child vaccination rates are rapidly declining and we’re about to have a bunch of dead ass children.

I am usually pretty on top of infectious disease news and I didnt know about this one. It has not gotten much press. Seems like most of the news articles were published in the last few days and there arent many of them. Outbreak has been going since mid-March.

Considering the newsworthy aspects of the story, having the media articles only really start this week is strange. It has been a good few months for clicks on infectious disease stuff too, so idk why there werent really any press articles on this measles outbreak until recently. Most of the articles I can find were published in the last 24 hours. So yeah it does definitely seem like the world at large was/is ignoring Bangladesh here.

Us as random people though probably can't do much. We can comment like we are here and share the articles and such, maybe donate a bit, or write a letter to our political representatives to pressure them to help etc; but without news articles about it there is not really a great way for us all to know/share. We rely on the news and such to tell us if important stuff like this is happening, and there just was not much for news on this. So like the ignoring is fully not our fault but also it does seem to have happened.
