>The triple hormone drug mimics three gut hormones that help control your appetite, blood sugar and metabolism: GLP-1, GIP and glucagon. Unlike other diabetes medications such as Ozempic and Wegovy, which primarily target the GLP-1 pathway to suppress appetite, or Mounjaro, which contains GLP-1 plus GIP to control blood-sugar levels, retatrutide also engages the glucagon receptor, which helps increase energy expenditure.
Maybe because it's only the one we have a treatment for now? The rise in these drugs is not indicative of the research effort that is on-going in Type I or gestational diabetes.
Why do we talk about diabetes like only type II exists?
Everybody with diabetes that I know is either type I, or had gestational diabetes, and they are all perfectly fit people who just got unlucky.
But when people talk about diabetes generally, it’s like it’s just assumed it’s caused by lifestyle choices and that weight loss will help. Kinda sucks. The article mentions that it’s for type II, but none of the headlines or comments reflect that.
Lol what an insane thing to do like a type 2 diabetic can just undo being diabetic once it get's there. Diabetics usually eat better then 90% of people because if they don't they risk health complications.
People say like remarkably stupid things in my experience if they feel there better then you though (obviously there not) and it makes them look really dumb.
It must be incredibly frustrating as a T2 to be viewed as having a moral failing for bring a T2 when it's a biologically lower threshold of tolerance to carbohydrate in their diet.
I get it. It's not the same but I grew up in child services and people sometimes will just straight up say things to my face I can't imagine assuming about someone. Like me teenager "I'm in foster care so I have a birth family I visit" guy unprompted "I'm so sorry I know abuse is hard".
People are just really stupid sometimes and way too comfortable saying grossly inappropriate things.
Because over 40 million people in the US have diabetes and 90 to 95% of them have type 2. The vast majority of cases are therefore caused by lifestyle choices. The cost of Americans being obese is staggeringly high in terms of comorbidities and medical expenses.
There is still hope for those with type 1 though. Researchers are working on immunotherapies to help cure type 1. It's a fundamentally different disease though, and one that's harder to cure.
>The vast majority of cases are therefore caused by lifestyle choices. The cost of Americans being obese is staggeringly high in terms of comorbidities and medical expenses.
You have any evidence behind that besides your moralizing claims? Because diet does not cause T2D, it can just exacerbate it. But no scientist or anyone with a science background would ever say what you just claimed...

Welcome to life as a T1.
If I had a dollar for every time somebody lectured me on making better food choices, I'd be a damn sight richer than I am now.
So just smile and move on, life's much better without those people in it.

Because it's the most common type by far and lifestyle changes are a huge part of prevention and treatment.

because dm1 is less than 1% of americans and dm2 is 10%.

I only know 1 other type 1 in my life. Everyone else I meet is type 2. So I guess it depends where you live? But type 2 is far more common
