Good exhibit. Sometimes I feel like history glosses over the human parts of history, like just how much it could fucking hurt. We read that a knight rode down a fleeing soldier, but don't read as much about how the solider then suffered in agony for 18 hours in some field before dying alone. We tell ourselves that the people on Pompeii died quickly, and maybe they did, but some definitly suffered.

Just when I thought it couldn't get worse for the people of Pompeii

1000 of the 20 000 people stayed and chose not to leave their house thinking they'll be safe. They had 18 hours!

It was way more than 1000 that stayed.
