Thats like waking up in the morning and wondering why the grass doesn’t look taller since yesterday

Almost like people have a difficulty comprehending time. On a personal level, 50 years feels like a long-ass time. But on a species scale, it's a fart in the wind.

Yeah, definitely, there is also more inter-racial people alive today, than there ever were

How can you look at a euro-african asian person and come to the conclusion that evolution has slowed down?

seatsfive | 14 hours ago

Honestly you're probably getting mixed signals from the people who see the Brazilification of the human race and start hyperventilating about the beauty of white women

Kahnza | 14 hours ago

....what?

Sorry, I'll try to be less chronically online for a moment.

The human population is still evolving. Sex selection, cultural pressures, etc. There may even be some physiological traits that we're not seeing that are being selected for in response to environmental pressures. The populations of Brazil and other western hemisphere nations are great examples evolving human populations because of colonization by diverse groups of humans and complex social relations among those groups. A lot of Latin American ethnicities in particular are mixes of a whole bunch of different populations. This mixing is what I referred to as "Brazilification."

There are also people out there who believe that different haplogroups of the human species represent "more" or "less" evolved groups of humans. These people often have normative opinions about the superiority of a particular haplogroup. Or, more likely, opinions about the superiority of whatever bundle of cultural and phenotypical characteristics they've decided comprise a particular "race."

These people would generally look upon "Brazilification" as an example of degeneracy or devolution towards the dominance of "inferior" populations or the dilution of the "superior" populations. Some of these people like to go on the internet and complain about this process.

Because reasons, a lot of the loudest of these people are white, and they like to call this process "White Genocide." They complain about "the beauty of the white Aryan woman perishing from the earth" in their slogans and propaganda regarding "White Genocide.".

Because similar reasons, any discourse that you read on the internet about human evolution in Current Year is bound to contain some amount of overt or covert opining by people with these normative beliefs about White Genocide. These people don't understand how evolution works or frankly what it even is. So when you talk about this subject online, you're liable to receive "mixed messages" about the idea of ongoing human evolution.

Also there will be people who don't understand how limited human perspective, evolutionary time frames, and Very Big Numbers work, so you'll hear from them too.

Nice explanation!

Do you have any thoughts on the over representation of Interracial couples in laundry soap ads?

You can definitely tell the grass grows over night where I’m at lol, but your point stands

Over the past 10,000 years and in West Eurasia. Pretty important detail left out there.

GarageIndependent114 | 14 hours ago

"Natural selection" lead to more hot redheads and less ugly bald guys. Sure, Jan.

"more redheads"

Darwin: You SOB, I'm in!

BabyLegsOShanahan | 14 hours ago

West Eurasia. No where else, I guess.

ZioCathH8Liberty | 13 hours ago

I'm ginger adjacent and surprised at how many people find 'us' hot. Doesn't make a lick of sense to me.

Gherin29 | 10 hours ago

In 200 years, everyone will look like Ed Sheeran

IcyFan3575 | 11 hours ago

Because redheads are beautiful?

Total Red Head supremacy! This coming from a brown haired subhuman.

I am personally in favor of more redheads.

There was a show called Catastrophe about extinction events. In it they said if you took the timeline of earth from its formation to now, and stretched it to the length of a sports stadium's grass, humans have only been on the planet for half the thickness of a blade of grass. I've no idea if that's right, it just always stuck with me.

2Throwscrewsatit | 5 hours ago

It’s about right.

Modern humans have been around for 50,000 years.

Earth has been around 4,000,000,000 years.

5/400,000 =0.0000125

A blade of grass is about 1/8th of an inch. That means 96 blades per foot. A football field is roughly 130 yards or 390 feet. 96*390=37,440 blades or 1/37440=0.0000267

I know in my part of the world a lot of the native Americans have red hair. Mostly because a catholic priest had sex with dozens of underage girls and got them pregnant. He had red hair... so there wasn't much of a mystery.

BabyLegsOShanahan | 14 hours ago

I guess that still counts as evolution, right?

ScoffersGonnaScoff | 14 hours ago

Supernatural Selection

Ak_Lonewolf | 12 hours ago

Technically speaking yes. People can be mad about it but evolution doesn't have morals. It only cares what works. Now this isn't my endorsement. We can see this actively in the animal kingdom. Ducks are a prime example of this.

ScoffersGonnaScoff | 8 hours ago

Hey, leave the ducks outta this.

Ak_Lonewolf | 6 hours ago

Listen, If you want to defend duck rapists thats on you.

Physical_Dentist2284 | 13 hours ago

I don’t know why you have been downvoted. Everything you said seems totally plausible.

Ak_Lonewolf | 12 hours ago

People dont want to admit that rape is a form of evolution. Example... ducks. Duck rape is so prevalent that they have biological diverse genitalia to actively fight rape insemination. The female vaginas is shaped cork screw and counter clock wise with false paths. The male ducks penis is corkscrew shaped but clockwise. Lots of research done on this topic.
