Medical journal articles, like research from nonprofits and facts exposed through litigation, are often cited by journalists as source material in coverage of everything from outbreaks to drug recalls to promising new treatments. When they’re censored, so is the news that reaches newspaper pages and the public.

Censorship is often just another name for authoritarianism. Validity should be based on scientific principles not political hacks with no scientific background. And without journalism there is no democracy. The constitutional purpose of the press (aka fourth estate) is to hold power to account. Withholding information is a backdoor way of censoring and preventing information being given to constituents via the fourth estate.

It is widely used in China, Russia and Iran. Not throwing shade on those three in particular - just three extremely obvious examples. If American patriots wanted to live like that they would move to a country that uses censorship to keep their populations in the dark. After all, if you have nothing to hide why keep it hidden?
