At this point in the game, a parent admitting that they were wrong is only gonna help other kids whose parents are on the fence about the vaccine. And these people obviously don't give two shits for anyone but themselves, so of course they're gonna lie to everyone including themself
I'm sure there still are... But anecdotally, for a family member of mine, they always voted Democrat, and were pretty anti-science - afraid of vaccines and GMO foods... And it was the conspiratorial thinking that got them to flip hard, and go full MAGA in recent years.
Are there? Trust in science has almost completely switched party identity at this point. There may be a few out there, but I suspect like most Americans those people have a bunch of weird views that seem completely contradictory to hold at the same time.
The right tend to be "God will save us, I don't need science," and the left are "I only believe in whole foods, raw milk, organic, and natural. Everything else will kill me."
Raw milk is extremely right wing coded these days, tons of religious fundies are all over it. I don't think these people have left wing political beliefs.
Meanwhile, a booster shot for adults who had the MMR vaccine as kids is considered to be best practice to eliminate the chance of catching measles. There are a lot of adults walking around who probably don't realize their immune systems are still vulnerable, and we're going to see people getting sick who were not expecting to get sick. And when those numbers climb, we'll see deaths, at which point RFK Jr. will be selling us home-extracted MAHA-branded snake oil, and all the cult members will order it by the case. Good. Just....good.
I never thought it could be so frustrating to have a brain in one's skull.
Measles protection (from older two-jab MMR vaccine used some decades back) has a half life of 14 years. I’m in my 50s and looking to get a booster soon
> “Our biggest reason why we didn't do it is just with all the unnecessary stuff they add into it,” Kristina added, referring to her beliefs about the vaccine.
> “With my own eyes, I have seen the damage it does to kids who are perfectly normal, and then once they get it, they're not the same anymore,” she claimed.
Somehow, the propaganda she saw on social media "with her own eyes" is more convincing than the fact that she is responsible for her own child being close to death. He's "not the same anymore", and it's her fault, but she refuses to admit it. This brainwashing is insane.
They have to double down. That is the only way they can rationalize their child having a debilitating, life altering disease and not carry the guilt of blaming themselves for it.
Hey its just like the morons who's kid got tetanus because they refuse vaccinations and he had to be put in a coma in a dark room for months because he had seizures so bad from the tetanus. And they said the same thing, they still will not vaccinate. Selfish horrible parents.
I just cannot get into these people's heads. I've got a kid about the same age and wanted to go scorched earth when I found out he was picked last for dodgeball.
But being more pragmatic, the cost/benefit doesn't make sense.
Vaccination:
"With my own eyes, I have seen the damage it does to kids who are perfectly normal, and then once they get it, they're not the same anymore"
That's the mom's perspective, no real clinical data
No Vaccination:
Brain swelling
Antibiotics
Spinal tap (at least 2)
MIR (at least 2)
Temporary paralysis
Can no longer walk
I realize it's an ideological argument, not a logical one, but what's that "not the same" stuff again?
There should be separate insurance pools for these people. You want to ignore proven science then you can pay a whole lot more than the rest of us. Enough of paying for ignorance.

I upvoted this because it's correct but there are plenty of crunchy lefties who are just as deranged on this particular subject.

Anecdotally from my mom Facebook groups, the crunchy left leaning anti-vaxxers far outnumber the right.

They're following the old ways, have a bunch of kids so disease and accidents can't take them all. SMH
