This happened shockingly often in "the good old days". Not having the language to talk about it, the culture of shame, and predators who know to only go so far to avoid suspicion are true monsters.
I was disturbed to learn that when child predators who got caught are interviewed in ways that guarantee their admissions cannot be used against them legally or shared publicly, they often admit to victim counts anywhere from in the 20s to the 100s. It's mindboggling. (Read the book Predators by Anna Salter to learn a lot more, but understand before you go in that it's extremely disturbing.)
Not just the good old days, it still happens now. The pedos have just gotten smarter as the kids and parents have. Now grooming doesn’t start with sitting on laps or putting things in pockets, but it still starts with secrets and shame they’re just more creative about it.
One in six men report experiencing sexual assault. True unreported numbers are likely higher. Support is available at the link, it’s possible to live a happier, healthier life than where you find yourself today.
This was an incredible read and about so much more than how grooming was treated in the 80s. I'm not yet sure how I would describe the content of this article but I'm glad to have read it.
1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused before the age of 18. At that rate, sexual abuse of children is remarkably common, unfortunately. We are now being governed by a cabal of pedophiles, for instance. People actively support a known serial rapist of children and women for the highest position in this country.
