A lot of conspiracy theories operate on what I think of as Onion Logic. It's a series of cascading arguments presented one after another, despite the various 'layers' often being contradictory to each other. However, all the arguments work towards roughly the same goal.
You've probably run into this with climate change denial. Someone starts out with the statement "Climate change isn't real, it's all a hoax", if you refute that it shifts to "Well it just looks like it's getting warmer because weather stations are in hotter locations now", refute that and it shifts to "Well it doesn't matter because climate change isn't man made" then it shifts to "Well actually more CO2 is actually good" and so on and so forth. What's exhausting is that you can never make any progress, even if you peel off a layer and get to the next, when you come back to the argument the outside layers have regrown and your back at the first layer of argument.
COVID denialists are working on the same logic, the outer most layer is that COVID isn't real, then we get to the "Well it wasn't a big deal", and so on. The only difference is there's a little cross linking of the layers on COVID denial, the "Well Fauci didn't take it seriously enough" and "It's a chinese bioweapon" layers have kinda fused into "It's a chinese bioweapon that is somehow Fauci's fault". The fact that makes no sense doesn't matter, it's just another layer to throw out.
