This is a multi-media art project.
It is not a list of facts and figures, nor is it a soul-numbing enumeration of the atrocities committed under these regimes.
It is not a book for children, but neither is it overly graphic in word or image. You may proceed with only the caution inherent to the subject matter.
The stories are mine, and they are probably fiction. Each is a creative distillation of dozens of books, articles, and first-hand accounts, and are intended to provide an accessible way of approaching a few slices of history that often get lost in either crushing despair or academic sterility. I have learned a lot in the process, and I hope you learn some things, as well.
The illustrations were hand-cut and assembled between layers of resin, and many books were harmed in the making of this one. I believe the sacrifice was worth it; hopefully you agree.
